Arturo Gatti – Dead at 37
Former Champ found dead in Brazilian hotel room
Former Junior Welterweight Boxing Champion Arturo Gatti died yesterday in Brazil hotel room. He was 37 years old. He was known to have called Hoboken home at some point (not sure if he still lived in the Hudson Tea Building or not) – but news reports say he was living in Canada.
He was on his second honeymoon in Brazil – and investigators are suspecting foul play.
Gatti had many fans and friends in Hoboken and Hudson County, and will surely be mourned.
Here was a quote from NJ Monthly from 2008:
What do you like about Hoboken?
“Hoboken’s a convenient place for me. I’m always in New York City, and whatever I need in Hoboken I can just walk to go get it. The people are nice, they treat me well, and I live in a nice, professional building. I love New Jersey. I couldn’t see myself living nowhere else.”– Arturo Gatti
