Pizza Republic – New!

July
7/13/2009:
Here is the “official” Hoboken411 entry for Pizza Republic, which took over for the previous Filippo’s Pizza.
There was a previous entry – in which Hoboken411 readers were asked to help “name” the new pizza place. Owner Greggory Kronhaus picked “Pizza Republic” as the winning name. Oddly, the person I emailed who picked the winning entry, never emailed me back. Who gets rewarded the luxurious grand prize of a single plain pizza a month for an entire year?
Anyway – this is where you share your comments and opinions about the new pizza parlor!

Ordered a Meatball Parm Hero – excellent. Great, fresh bread, tasty sauce, delicous meatballs. It was even better the next day reheated in the oven! Very impressed.

I also tried the Mac n Cheese. I thought it was too bland (for my taste). I just didn’t get much flavor. I will stick with the parm subs and sandwiches.

Went there the other night looking for something healthy (everything is closed at 10pm on a Tuesday). I asked the owner about the mac n cheese and it sounded delicious, albeit caloric. I then opted for a simple garden salad with grilled chicken and ren wine vinegarette. I was given a weird look and asked if I had tried any of their other salads in a way that made me feel like the guy was trying to tell me the salad was bad, and perhaps I should have listened.
$10.50 later, I get a salad with no delicious homemade croutons as advertised(healthy was the goal, but croutons are great, long non-diced pieces of chicken (the standard, but given the price I expected the chicken to be diced), crispy lettuce and about a tbsp of dressing. I later discovered that the dressing had leaked out through a hole in the bottom of the tin. I was also given a toasty entire half loaf of Italian bread.
But a crappy, expensive salad. Not surprising given they charge 2.75 for a slice that is 1/2 the size of the 7 Star Pizza 2.50 slice.
Here’s a suggestion, offer smaller or no bread, shave $3 off the price and check the tins before selling your crap. Regardless, I will never be back and will badmouth this place like it was still Fillipo’s (not the delicious one on 1st)

Hello Chapter 155:
We have a variety of delicious, fresh inventive salads that have been well recieved, based on quality and price your not going to find anything like we serve other than fine dinning. When you mentioned you wanted a garden salad, which is our basic house salad, I thought perhaps you would like to try something more interesting. I most certainly did not give you a weird look or anything of that nature, so where are you coming up with this inventive scenario?. Further I was not trying to say anything about the garden salad, all I was trying to do is offer you other options, which I now regret.
In addition, you didn’t even order any pizza, so how do you go from making these negative remarks about the salad and then say something about the pizza? Your comments are rude, untrue and then to say your going to bad mouth the restaurant is just mean spirited. It’s not like anything or anyone did any harm or wrong doing to you.
The success of Pizza Republic will speak for itself as business continues to grow each month. So I guess you’ll say thousands of people in Hoboken are just crazy for loving our food.
Happy Holidays!

Hi Scobie:
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about our Grandma Sicilian pie. I appreciate you taking the time in writing your comments. I usually like to respond faster to all postings, but running a small business is all time consuming. We look forward to your continuing patronage and seeing you again soon!!.
Thanks again

I stopped in Saturday night for a slice around 9PM and saw the former women who used to work at Flippo’s behind the counter. She was so rude and looked so pissed off, I hated it. This place would be great if the old guard was not around.

I decided to host my 5 yr old nieces birthday party at my home. I chose a pizza party for her, her friends and of course their parents. I looked into some local pizzerias and ordered prior to “taste test” from several. I ultimately decided to use Pizza Republic. I phoned and asked to speak to the manager to discuss what plans I had in mind. He was thorough, helped me decide portions, suggestions etc. Needless to say, the food, and service was a HIT. I WAS THE NUISSANCE. I phoned in a state of panic daily (first time hosting a kiddie party). Every person I spoke to was courteous and put my mind at ease. The day of the party, the food came, it was hot, plentiful and was delicious. The delivery person even helped me set up. They even sent a Happy Birthday Balloon for her. The prices were reasonable and they never “suggested food not needed for profit”. They assured me if I needed anything else (another pie, soda, bread etc. they would send it right over) I needed nothing else at all it was perfect. My niece was so happy along with her friends. The adults raved over the food. Overall a great success! I would highly recommend this establishment. The only “bad thing” I experienced was kiddie sauce prints on my walls from the pizza.

Hoboken parents a nuisance? Never heard that one before
Next party try their Mac n Cheese, it’s quite delicious. I on behalf of other members of the town would like to take my hat off to you for coming forward with your honesty about being a nuisance. We have seen 1000’s of problem makers around these parts and it is nice to see someone come clean. Please tell the other parents not to yap on their cell phones while crossing city streets, that for many of us is a nuisance

Just think as I stated I’m only the “aunt” not a “parent”. We did have the mac-n-cheese as well as the pizza, muscles, salad, fried calarami, chicken fingers, soda oh and the zeppoles and I agree it was all awesome. But, I admit I drove them crazy!! This one woman Lillian that works here I think would cringe if she heard my voice, but, everytime I called she was so pleasant and re-assuring. They even called the day after to see if everything was to my liking. Gold star for the food itself; however, triple gold for the customer service. Thanks again!
