You're paying the price because of all the ass-heads who trashed our town for St. Pat's. Laws are not made for the law-abiding. They're made for the lowest monkey among us. Think of the biggest jackhole you ever met. That's the guy who is the motivation behind making the rule.

Unfortunatly not everyone has what is called common courtesy for others. Because of this, rules like this are needed.

The submitter should count their blessings. I have the "privilege" of living in one of Jeff White's buildings, which is "maintained" about as well as a tire fire. It doesn't sounds like Applied's deck restriction is Draconian - it's enforcing civility that might otherwise not exist. YOU may want to bring a grill onto the deck, but maybe everyone else doesn't want to stand in the waft of smoke. Strollers take up a lot of space - I have a kid and I wouldn't think of dragging a stroller onto the deck, on which I presume space is somewhat limited. I can understand wanting to bring a cooler - I might have a beef with that since it can also serve as a seat, but on balance, it really doesn't sound that bad. It's not like you have to go to the deck, either.

Unfortunately, your fellow residents might be unable to act like adults unless they're forced to. I think Applied is trying to do the right thing; I doubt their motivation is spite.

Fingers crossed.

In response to Colin who said:

I think a lot of buildings fear a repeat of St. Pat's but I think most of it is an over reaction. The type of partier who comes to Hoboken or goes nuts on St. Patty's day is down the shore for the 4th.

I'm not surprised at the draconian measures after the St.P's debacle and resulting property damage. Our building will have security guards and no parties are allowed in the common courtyard. Roof off limits. In addition ID will be checked against the names from the rental leases (I'm not sure what this means for guests but it won't be a party friendly location). Personally I'm relieved by the decision of our management company. It's too bad people can't police themselves- it spoils it for everyone else.

Well put. Someone probably did something incredibly stupid during a past St. Pat's Day to trigger those rules.
