Hobokenpix: What is this lizard thing?

Hoboken Photo of the Day – 7/17/2009

The other day, when I was out late walking the Hoboken411 Mascot Oscar – I sort of stepped on the tail of this lizard thing that darted out of some brush along Hudson Street.

Does anyone know what the heck it is? Why was it there?

I’ve had a fire bellied newt for over six years now. I bought him in Chinatown and thought he’d last 3 months.
