Koa Koa now open!
Little did I know – that Koa Koa Frozen Yogurt (410 Washington) opened up a few days ago!
The self-service by-the-ounce treat shop is very basic. A couple machines, some toppings piled in bins – and a scale and register. I asked for a menu, and the owner of the joint said they’re installing flat screen “video menus” today. Talk about efficiency – no print overhead! Genius!
Cost per ounce is 55 cents.

Koa Koa: Second NJ Location
Coming soon to 410 Washington Street (the former Shining Nails salon location) – is Koa Koa Frozen Yogurt.
Koa Koa opened their first shop in Fort Lee, NJ late last year – to a seemingly warm reception. Warm enough that warranted location #2.
From what I understand, the yogurt and toppings are self-serve, and should sell for about $0.49 per ounce.

Description: Frozen Yogurt Shop

I went to the store in Ft. Lee a few weeks back. Plenty of flavors to choose from and all different types of toppings from fruity pebbles to fresh mango. 411 is correct, it is self serve and they charge by weight. I’m a fan! Good thing the location isn’t further uptown or I would be a regular.

Can we just spare everyone the trouble and add them to the doomed section now. Do any of these businesses have the slightest clue? Let me get this straight. You’re opening smack in the middle of Rita’s, Ben and Jerry’s, Cold Stone, McD’s, and Frozen Monkey. After Emack and Bolios went bust a year ago?? Yet, north of 6th St there is not one ice cream/yogurt place all the way up to 14th st. Koa could taste like crap and they’d probably still make money uptown. Give your money to charity before you blow it on a failed business model.

I agree.
Aren’t there already 2 other yogurt places that were set to open up on the east side of Washington that gave up because of the economy?
I know Pinkberry was one, I forget the name of the other locations between 4th and 6th on Wash.
are there any open storefronts in the other end of Washington?

So Green is opening up where Good Kleen Fun was. And then Pinkberry (or something like it) is supposed to be taking Emack and Bolio’s spot.
I miss E and B’s Cake Batter ice-cream.
Is Koa Koa one of those anal-retentive, weight-watching tyrants?

the lady who did my nails at Viva, across the street from the old Good Kleen Fun, told me Green wasn’t opening- it cost too much and was taking too long (red tape), though they still have to suck it up and pay the lease.
There are a lot of yogurt place in the city, esp. in the Union Sq. area. People ARE clearly eating a lot of it!

But why? What happened to good ol’fashioned ice-cream?
Sure. Everyone’s experiencing an orgasm over frozen yogurt now. However, just wait until wholesome and creamy (maybe organic) ice-cream makes a comeback.
Just you all wait…

I miss Jordan’s and Hobo’s.
We really need an uptown place. I looked at Maroon’s menu, and they serve icecream.

Walked by this morning and they were in the midst of construction. Looks nice and the pictures on the window remind me of Pinkberry (my fav…yum) however I’m afraid I’m going to have trouble forgetting this used to be a filthy nail salon that smelled like Chinese food.

Been there twice already. It’s delicious. Stop being so damn grouchy and give it a try. If I want ice cream I’ll go across the street to Ben & Jerry or Cold Stone but I don’t always want ice cream, and there’s nothing else like Koa Koa in Hoboken. You choose your flavor(s), put on whatever toppings you want, pay by weight (the dish, not yours, haha), and enjoy something refreshing and tasty. I hope they survive.

Paying be the weight is an awesome idea. Sometimes you don’t want 18 scoops, and just a quick bite.

Went there the first day. Excellent taste and idea. Humble request to cover the toppings somehow to prevent problems.

Was just in there yesterday. Just scouting it out and looking at the flavors. There were quite a few families in there and saw one guy with a huge bowl of it.
Will be back to try the pistachio.

I noticed that you’d mentioned Maroon some time ago. Yeah, their menu looks interesting. I could have sworn bon-bons (or bon-bon like things) were listed!

I went to Koa Koa today and loved it. Great addition to Hoboken. My only request would be bananas as a topping.

Just saw the pictures.
Frozen yogurt from machines? I feel as though I’m on an episode of The Jetsons.
Blech.
