Here are two other options for after-hours emergency pet care.

A place in Lyndhurst, North Jersey Veterniary Emergency Services (http://www.njves.com/html/index.html) opened up in 2006. It is a small office, but it is only 9 miles away and there was no wait at all. Time was of essence, as my cat was in grand mal seizure/diabetic coma for an undetermined amount of time. If I had driven all the way to Fairfield or Oradell, he would have died. Thankfully, they handled the situation quickly and well, and my cat not only lived but thrives.

When it was an emergency, but death didn't seem as imminent, I drove my cat to Fairfiel to the Animal Emergency and Referral Associates. It was a fortune, but they saved my cat from a "blockage" due to bladder stones. They have a huge, well equipped facility. I would recommend it.

I'm sorry to hear about MP's experience with Oradell, but very much disagree. Likely her pet's passing was caused by a reaction to the anesthesia, which, while infrequent, can and does happen (just as it happens to humans).

I brought my golden, Tequila, to the Animal Infirmary on 6th and Adams, where they made the initial diagnosis of a tumor in April of this year. They recommended Oradell for the surgery, and I brought him there for the follow up care as well. Although he still passed away, the care he received was phenomenal and the doctors there did everything they could for both Tequila and for my wife and I. They are everything you want doctors to be in dealing with issues of health with your loved ones--caring and involved while bringing their expertise to bear.

I highly recommend Oradell and would not hesitate to bring any pet I have in the future back there.<!--begin reply-->

 <span class="in_response_to">In response to mandypaige316 who said:</span>
<div class="replied_to_style">I highly suggest not going to Oradell Animal Hospital, I grew up in Bergen County with many pets and had to take my puppy there when i was 13, she ended up passing away due to her treatment there. she went in to get her teeth cleaned and never woke up. she was only 4 years old!</div><!--end reply-->

there was at one time an animal hospital on washington....in the 80s

well, we have more help for domestic animals then humans in this world. .... I see more homeless alcohalics on the streets than domestic animals like cats or dogs.

I agree with mandypaige316. I lived in Oradell and would not use this place. The vets are rude and care only about how much money they can squeeze out of you.

Thanks Perry, I knew about NYC also but it still seems a bit far, with all the pets in Hoboken. I appreciate your checking it out for me. Fairfield is a lovely facility & the vets are very good it's just the distance.<!--begin reply-->

<div class="replied_to_style">I think a 24 hour place in Hoboken would score big.

Not just for Hoboken pet owners, but all surrounding cities. If they put it in the back of town, with decent parking lot (hey, maybe the uptown commerce center?) it could work well.</div><!--end reply-->

If it makes economic sense to open such a facility, then somone will. Clearly there isn't that much demand.
