Sick pets need quick help!
With all the pets living in Hoboken, it amazes me that there isn’t one single 24-hour veterinary service in town!

24 hour vets near Hoboken
By far, the closest 24-hour animal hospital is in NYC. Which isn’t necessarily bad if you have a car, and the emergency is late at night (no traffic) – but could be a problem for those with large pets, or who rely on public transportation:
- NYC Veterinary Specialists (NYCVS)
410 West 55th Street (55th Street, just west of 9th Avenue) New York, NY 10019 (map)
Phone: 212-767-0099 Fax: 212-767-0098
Other NJ options include:
- Oradell Animal Hospital
580 Winters Ave. Paramus, NJ 07652 (map)
Phone: 201-262-0010 Fax:201-262-4275
Email: info@oradell.com - Animal Emergency & Referral Service

I highly suggest not going to Oradell Animal Hospital, I grew up in Bergen County with many pets and had to take my puppy there when i was 13, she ended up passing away due to her treatment there. she went in to get her teeth cleaned and never woke up. she was only 4 years old!

Hoboken should definately have a 24hr.pet care facility. I have used NYC Veterinary Specialists. I was very impressed with them. I am a cat owner. I own a petsitting service. A few months ago. I was dogsitting. The dog was not his normal self. I brought him to Hoboken Animal Hospital. The dogowner’s cell phone was not functioning internationally. His regular vet was H.A.H. They did a good job. I explained I was the dogsitter. I had to put out hundreds of dollars upfront. It turned out the dog had a life threatening illness. HHA could not help him. I took the dog in a taxi to N.Y.C.V.S. I explained the situation. I wasn’t charged a dime. I was asked to authorize a life saving procedure. The dog survived the procedure. I had to leave him there. I received a phone call in the morning N.Y.C.V.S.let me know the dogs well being. I would suggest using them.

If it makes economic sense to open such a facility, then somone will. Clearly there isn’t that much demand.

I think a 24 hour place in Hoboken would score big.
Not just for Hoboken pet owners, but all surrounding cities. If they put it in the back of town, with decent parking lot (hey, maybe the uptown commerce center?) it could work well.

Thanks Perry, I knew about NYC also but it still seems a bit far, with all the pets in Hoboken. I appreciate your checking it out for me. Fairfield is a lovely facility & the vets are very good it’s just the distance.

I agree with mandypaige316. I lived in Oradell and would not use this place. The vets are rude and care only about how much money they can squeeze out of you.

there was at one time an animal hospital on washington….in the 80s
well, we have more help for domestic animals then humans in this world. …. I see more homeless alcohalics on the streets than domestic animals like cats or dogs.

Can anyone recommend a place either here in northern NJ or in NYC to get a kitty her shots and whatever else, for a low-cost? thanks.

Thanks… my neighbor just got a kitty this past weekend and as cute as she is, I am ultimately more concerned with the health of her other two older cats. I’ll call, thanks again!

I’m sorry to hear about MP’s experience with Oradell, but very much disagree. Likely her pet’s passing was caused by a reaction to the anesthesia, which, while infrequent, can and does happen (just as it happens to humans).
I brought my golden, Tequila, to the Animal Infirmary on 6th and Adams, where they made the initial diagnosis of a tumor in April of this year. They recommended Oradell for the surgery, and I brought him there for the follow up care as well. Although he still passed away, the care he received was phenomenal and the doctors there did everything they could for both Tequila and for my wife and I. They are everything you want doctors to be in dealing with issues of health with your loved ones–caring and involved while bringing their expertise to bear.
I highly recommend Oradell and would not hesitate to bring any pet I have in the future back there.

Here are two other options for after-hours emergency pet care.
A place in Lyndhurst, North Jersey Veterniary Emergency Services (http://www.njves.com/html/index.html) opened up in 2006. It is a small office, but it is only 9 miles away and there was no wait at all. Time was of essence, as my cat was in grand mal seizure/diabetic coma for an undetermined amount of time. If I had driven all the way to Fairfield or Oradell, he would have died. Thankfully, they handled the situation quickly and well, and my cat not only lived but thrives.
When it was an emergency, but death didn’t seem as imminent, I drove my cat to Fairfiel to the Animal Emergency and Referral Associates. It was a fortune, but they saved my cat from a “blockage” due to bladder stones. They have a huge, well equipped facility. I would recommend it.
