New! Uptown Farmer’s Market!

July
7/9/2009 Reminder:
Did you check out the new Farmers Market?
I swung by last week (as I mentioned in the comments section) – and one vendor of note was Hoboken Farms.
Yes – the looks are deceiving, since they have lots of carbs, and blobs of fresh Mozz – however, it’s a great addition to the standard fruits and veggies that other vendors are offering.
Hoboken Farms provide a wide selection of breads (from Balthazar’s and Hoboken’s own Dom’s Bakery) – along with other frozen or refrigerated items like crab cakes, fresh pasta and even meats you can grill.
If you’re dieting, the worst tent to get caught under during a rain storm was this one. But I’m still happy nonetheless!
Pay a visit today (starting at 4pm)!

7/2/2009 Update/Reminder:
Just a little “nudge” that the “new for 2009″ Uptown Farmer’s Market begins TODAY!
Also – in speaking with Dave Calamoneri (who’s helped organize this event) – the streets were off by one block. The market will be setup along Hudson Street between 13th & 14th (not 12th & 13th). So if that extra block of walking will effect your health – consider yourself warned!

Uptowners: Less schlepping!
Hot on the heels of the 2009 Farmer’s Market downtown – is an exciting new addition this year. Uptown residents will be treated to a weekly Farmer’s Market as well!
Starting on Thursday, July 2nd – and continuing at least till the end of October, Hudson Street between 12th and 13th Streets will be transformed into an awesome market of fresh locally grown produce!
Not 100% sure how they pulled this off, as King’s Supermarket may take a bit of a beating on those days, but I doubt residents will complain (other than the lack of parking).

I stopped by at 4:30 (right during a rain storm).
They have four vendors setup so far. I bought a jug of “new pickles” for $7 (fresh).
Two standard “farm” vendors (fruits & veggies) and “Hoboken Farm” which didn’t sell any “farmers” stuff – but fresh mozz, various breads from Dom’s and Balthazars – plus frozen meats and pastas.
Sidewalk walking was tight – but that will be tweaked, according to Peter Cunningham.
Nice to have uptown.

EricW, I think you have a great idea. Since it looks like no construction will be taking place in those 2 lots in the next few months, that would have been a better location than the one on Hudson Street. I wonder why that location was not considered.

I think the 4-5 booths that are set up there have good quality produce and other food, and the prices are reasonable. I bought several things yesterday.
But to call it an “Uptown Market” is a little deceiving. To me, “market” implies something much larger than what is offered here…which isn’t to say that it’s not good…but folks expecting a full-blown market with lots of stands/choices aren’t really going to get that.
