What’s up with the OEM Department?

6/8/2009:

One Hoboken resident is looking to be part of a Hoboken Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) – which is proudly displayed on the city’s “OEM” website. However, she’s tried contacting them to no avail. Hmmmph.

Seems non-existent!

hoboken-cert-team“When I moved here a little more than a year and a half ago, I tried contacting them about their CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) program, which their website states they are “ready to build.”

I have tried getting in touch with them multiple times, but have yet to have any success.

It irritates me that they advertise this but do not intend to follow through, and I find it weird that our community doesn’t have a current team (I don’t know if we possibly had one in the past). Do you know of anyone that may have been on a team in past years? I have been a part of a team in New Castle County, DE and the training really taught some valuable life-saving skills. I was hoping to find out if there was an interest in Hoboken, too!

Thanks!

He’s getting divorced over the Hooters incident last year. His wife didn’t like the pictures that were taken that night. He’s also on disability pay when he was a cop in Secaucus. Looks like he is triple dipping. He will get what he deserves.

Mestre was (is?) a pain-in-the-ass zoning officer before this job. Maybe he is doing both now? Maybe he’s doing neither but being paid for both? A source told me he’s married to the Mayor’s sister, that wouldn’t surprise me…

The guy in charge, Joel Mestre I think, invited me and my husband to be part of it a couple of years ago when we went in there to talk about some trouble we were having with a city agency. He was very nice, but we never heard from him after that initial meeting.

My guess, and this is just a shot in the dark, is that our OEM employees are pretty much no show jobs, and if they responded to your trying to contact them it might mean they have to do something, which they are trying to avoid at all costs.
BTW, we pay the 2 OEM city employees: $97,614.00
and $15.770.00 for all their hard work.
