Reader Mail: Lawn Mowing?

6/5/2009:

People have lawns in Hoboken?

Hoboken411 reader Jill sent an email in looking for recommendations for someone to cut her lawn, as her lawnmower broke. I told her to call a landscaping company, but she said she came up short.

Any suggestions for her?

Here’s a video clip I shot back in 2007 – a rare sound of a lawnmower in Hoboken…

There is a thin guy with gray hair and blue eyes named Pablo who lives on Park Ave near the Brandt school. I think he might be the super for a bunch of the condo buildings sharing the giant yard on that side. Maybe if you live near him, you could talk to him. I wish the people at 805 Park would use him or someone else. For some reason he mows all the other addresses sharing that yard except for 805 Park, and their grass is now about 3 feet high. I’m sure the poopy cats’ fleas and the mosquitoes are loving it.

Wow! I know the person in that video! And Mooshu, anytime you want to mow, let me know and I’ll hook you up. Mowing the lawn, smelling the grass and allergies. Good times.

As long as you own a mower for me to use (one that works), I’m fine. Would help to learn how to power it on as I’ve never used one. But I’m a quick learner.

Also, I’ve no allergies.

Bring it.

Why not cut your own? I do. I use an electric mower I bought at a gate sale 10 years ago for $5. Works like a charm and takes all of about 3 minutes. I do it, tops, 4 or 5 times a season. My neighbor uses a weed-whacker which also works well. You can buy a cheap electric mower at Home Depot for under $100, or go the nostalgic route and buy an old-fashioned rotary motor. Why have someone else do it when you yourself can smell the cut grass??

Gee. Thanks, buzzkill!

Ssshh. Mowing lawns is work for us peons. If everyone mowed their own lawns, there’d be no jobs for us.

Get it together, man.

Dude, I’d SO mow a lawn like that! I love the smell of cut grass AND the feeling of vacuuming :).

Hooray for lawn-mowing.

I wish it was a rare sound in Hoboken. My neighbors fire theirs up at 8am on weekends.
