Hoboken City Council – 6/3/2009

6/3/2009:

Last meeting before runoff election!

Swing by city hall tonight at 7pm if you’re interested – it’ll be the next to last time you’ll see this exact group of people together! Here’s tonight’s:

My favorite item of the week is the second new ordinance:
“AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF THE CITY OF HOBOKEN TO CLAIRTY THE HOURS OF OPERATIONS FOR OUTDOOR SERVICE AREAS FOR BARS AND RESTAURANTS.”

Anyone want to guess why I picked the beach as today’s city hall background?

I’m told that Jimmy Farina’s wife is the schools’ purchasing agent.(Jimmy Farina sits on the BOE and is the city clerk).

I’ll have to confirm her position at the BOE.

Not trying to duck anything. But as a sitting member of the board writing under my own name, I’d ask for a little slack when it comes to specifics under consideration.

I don’t want specifics, I trust you on this one. Only folks tossing stones are the ones more concerned w/ the bloat than w/ the budget.

The Kids First team (Minutillo, Sullivan, McAllister) was elected in a landslide with the promise (and I don’t use that word lightly) that we would “demand that the schools spend taxpayer money as carefully as we spend our own” and “eliminate bureaucratic waste.”

As shocking as it may seem, we are moving right ahead with those plans.

Come to the board meeting on Tuesday, June 16 at 7 pm to see how we plan to accomplish our goals.

It should be noted that although we went through the open and transparent RFQ process to find a lawyer, legal services are not required to go through RFQs. The governance committee met in the board offices, interviewed attorneys who replied to the RFQ and hired one at the last public boe meeting.

Ms. Sullivan,

Thank you for contributing to this board. Hoboken411 and Estevens recently exposed very suspicious purchase orders and transactions averaging $30k per month between the Hoboken Recreation Department, Hoboken High School, and Stan’s Sporting Goods. What is your response to these recent findings – specific to schools – and are you planning an investigation to determine if there is any basis in the accusations on this site and others that a serious and unacceptable illegal relationship exists between these groups that must be ended immediately?

No.28 M.Sullivan…This extra legal help was hired without any budget line or money for same. This was done against the advico of the CPA board member (DeFalco). It is against good practice. Let’s see what the real motives are…These will surface after the June 9th election….

To lump all bnr, or any group together, for that matter, is ignorant. Many BNR/overall residents are sick and tired of the patronage mill and business as usual. Those who have done research or have been around long enough, are aware of “the takers and the givers.”

Those who want the status quo can continue to support the same people who the “status quo endorsees ” support.
