Reader Mail: Campaign Junk!

5/28/2009:

Hoboken411 reader Patrick – is annoyed by the campaign literature being sent out – and wonders how to make it stop.

“Do Not Mail” list – is there such a thing?

“Really like the site and all the great info about the fabulous town of Hoboken.

My question is…. If I contact a campaign and ask them to stop mailing me their flyers, do they have to stop? I asked one group to stop sending me their flyers a few weeks ago. It stopped for a bit, but seems to have started again. They are a tremendous waste of paper and I don’t use them to decide how I want to vote. Anyway, was hoping you might be able to answer since I think it stinks that they continue to send me their junk even though I told them to stop.

Thanks and once again really like the site!
Patrick”

My hallway was full of ZIMMER JUNK, and they know I am not
an admirer of her and I already told her whole crew I was not voting for her, and why! The next day there was a PILE on the floor, in the entrance and a few more in the mailbox.
They will be ordering huge boxes of the things for election day, and the streets will be littered. Going INDEPENDENT does eliminate a lot of this. I was going to do that anyway, after this election! Tired of too much politics, once we have a new Mayor he can address the problem.

Speak to your neighbors, because you know that your mailman/woman put them inside the mailbox.
If your neighbors are pigs, that is not Zimmer’s fault.

Prior to this last primary, my neighborhood (4th ward) was literally LITTERED with Beth Mason fliers. Based on what I saw on my stoop and on every stoop between Newark and Second Street, whoever was supposed to “hand out” the fliers just dumped stacks of them at each building, and of course when the wind kicked up, they were everywhere.

I think the campaigns should be liable for this. Can I just throw paper on the street without being fined? Candidates have the right to campaign but there can and should be regulations on the manner in which it is conducted. Throwing confetti all around town for the sake of your own election shouldn’t be condoned.

Mason wasn’t the only one but the Mason “snow” all over my neighborhood really ticked me off. I had half a mind to gather up as many as I could and drop them off at her campaign headquarters, but it was martini time.

In her council race, Zimmer’s people cleaned up the 4th the day after the election. I’m sure they will do it again. Likewise Cammarano (one hopes).

Register as an independent. I did that and all campaign mail ceased.
