Reader Mail: Miss the crosstown bus!
Hoboken411 reader Wesley – upset that the Crosstown Bus was canceled this past winter – wonders about this mysterious “duct tape bus” driving around the city…
Hoboken Ghost Shuttle
I moved to midtown Hoboken last August, amidst the heat and long long walk to the PATH station every morning. Fortunately, I was informed that a shuttle ran throughout our great city every 30 minutes on my corner, costing only a $1 to get to the station, cutting my walking time significantly. It was super efficient in the morning, though much tougher to catch on the way home afterwork. Still, one dollar?! Incredible value.
Over the winter (and a cold, snowy one at that), I learned that they were cutting the shuttle due to high operating costs. There was a very loyal customer ridership following the shuttle that relied on it to get to and from the various points in Hoboken. I thought all was lost until I saw this ghost-ship of a shuttle driving down 7th Street the other day. I managed to snap a picture of it this morning, and sure enough, it’s the same $1 shuttle. I didn’t get a chance to catch up to it, and may just wait on the corner it picked us up on tomorrow to see if it’ll take me to the PATH. What would bother me is if it isn’t operational, it’s the audacity that our Department of Transportation thinks that their ingenious use of duct-tape covering the “Crosstown Shuttle” portion of the side would fool us. Then again, any given taxi by the cab stand has all their fare info. taped over or scratched off as well.
Something really needs to change about both these issues.
