Man arrested; allegedly tried get boy into bathroom

A call came into the police this afternoon – alleging that a man tried to lure a boy into the bathroom at Columbus Park. He was described as an Hispanic male, wearing a “red Mexican hat,” and between 5’7″ – 5’8″ in height. Police immediately responded to the area, and soon picked up a man matching that description near 8th and Monroe. He had a red bandana (are those called Mexican hats these days?)

After a lengthy process of tracking the original caller of this incident down, the police finally arranged for the supposed victims to identify the man. After positive identification, the family chose to press charges, and the man was arrested and brought down to Police Headquarters.

Lesson: Never let your guard down!

when vezzetti ran against cappiello, one of the main issues was too many chiefs and not enough indians in our uniformed services. roberts, using cappiello’s model, created the same problem by overpromoting, particularly in the police force. i agree with matt 72. more guys on the beat and fewer brass would be a great solution.

most of our police, firemen et al are good workers and dedicated community servants who truly love helping our community, even on their time off many of them volunteer as coaches and in community organizations.

DavidsSling:
Hoboken Cops are not going to protect you . They have more criminal activity in the police department than on the street.
They needed to call the Stevens security when there was a riot in the projects .
The Stevens Campus Police are real cops, and have been trained in the New Jersey Police Academy, are commissioned and have the powers of a regular police officers. The Chief is a commissioned officer.

A friend of mine got a 4- point ticket from them about 10 years ago while driving through Hoboken.

Let’s not bash the entire police force for the actions of a few. We live here because is it very safe and we have to sse to it that it stays that way. Get involved and contact the brass when you don’t like something or have a suggestion.

I have a suggestion, demote half the brass and put them on patrol duty where they belong. Too many “bosses”, not enough “workers”.

They could have locked up all the drug dealers and kicked those that lived in the projects years ago.
Scammers, bullies – drug addicts. The major complaint in Hoboken is the police department -they have harassed bullied and broken the law for years. The Good cops gets treated like dirt and make less than the B%$Kiss syncophants and reprobates.
Time to bring in new leadership and straightened this place out.
