Jeez – another wandering cat

5/21/2009:

Cats seem to be lost more than cell phone records in Hoboken.

Meow meow on 1st and Jefferson

Hi Fupa – well, that’s very depressing that she doesn’t want to leave food or water. I don’t know what else we can do at this point. 🙁 Yes, like you, I am an animal lover and worry a lot about their welfare. The only other ideas I have are as follows: Over at the Hoboken Animal Hospital on Washington St., there is a lady there (the groomer) who is supposedly involved with animal rescue. She may have some thoughts on whom to contact if you wanted to have this cat trapped, brought to a no-kill shelter, vaccinated, fixed – and if friendly, it could then be put up for adoption. The # is: (201) 963-3604. Of course, I assume you’d need the cooperation of the lady with the yard to do this. Also, there is a Bayonne animal rescue group that could probably put you in touch with a rescue group in Hoboken: They are called “CARE” (Companion Animal Rescue & Education) and their phone # is 201-436-6595. Good luck!

Dog owners don’t have this problem of their dogs slipping away for days at a time. Why do we always have these cats roaming Hoboken? Put a tracking device chip in the cat’s ear to prevent this from happening again. Really, let’s stop this nonsense.

i dont think the issue is that cats are slipping away. people either dump their cats (and dont get them fixed) or the cat is lost. cats have been known to be scared by fireworks or thunder and run out of the house. and since cats can hide so well, it can be very tough to spot them. now with the economy, people are dumping their pets like crazy. we live in a throw-away society.

cats keep down the rat population. dog owners have their own vast number of problems.

Hi Fupa – I’m so happy that you spotted the kitty! He/She is lovely – looks like kitty has some nice weight on it, but looks a bit dirty, so I’m assuming it’s homeless. For now, if it were me, I’d leave kitty food and water outside twice per day, both at night and during the daytime. If you leave kitty food only during daylight hours, there is the risk that other critters might eat the food (e.g. squirrels – I have nothing against squirrels, but they usually have secure stashes of grub in various places, as they are well-adapted to outdoor living). This kitty looks like it needs some help. I’ll keep an eye on this thread and will post back if I have any other creative ideas. If you need cat food, let me know, and I could drop a bag of cat food by you. Will check in again soon…thank you for keeping vigil over the pretty cat. 🙂

thank you, you are very nice to offer a donation of food. i guess you are an animal lover like me! i wish i had access to the backyard. the lady downstairs doesnt seem to be too happy about leaving food. the cat def needs water. it cant survive on just dry food. sadly i havent seen the cat since. i look outside everyday.

haven’t seen the cat since. anyone in the area: have you seen him/her?

I’m really worried about this kitty now. 🙁 I’m hoping that the kitty simply got outside of its nearby home somehow, and then just returned to its owner later that day. If it were lost, you’d figure that it would come back to the yard where it was last fed (see fupa’s post above).
