Mayoral Debate Video

5/30/2009 Update:

Most folks in Hoboken didn’t attend last week’s Mayoral debate between Peter Cammarano and Dawn Zimmer. Here it is in it’s entirety – courtesy of Hoboken POG.

5/28/2009 Reminder:

Tonight is yet another “Talking & Promises” session over at OLG. Thankfully, a sane moderator (Bob Bowdon) will keep the discourse civil.

5/21/2009:

One week from tonight – is a debate between Mayoral Candidates Peter Cammarano and Dawn Zimmer.

Held at Our Lady of Grace Church (Willow between 4th & 5th) on Thursday, May 28, 2009 from 7:30pm to 9:00pm.

Mayoral candidates debate about campaign promises

“Hoboken voters will have the opportunity to hear from the two remaining candidates running for the position of mayor on Thursday, May 28, 2009 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The debate will be sponsored by People for Open Government and the Hoboken Quality of Life Coalition, along with Our Lady of Grace/St. Joseph Parish and The Church at Hoboken..

The event will take place in the auditorium of the school at Our Lady of Grace, corner of Willow Avenue at Fifth Street.

As at the previous candidates’ forums sponsored by these groups, the debate will be moderated by veteran TV reporter, anchorman, and documentary filmmaker, Bob Bowdon, whose on-camera reporting encompasses interviews with prominent personalities such as the chief executive officers of Citibank and Chase. He was with Bloomberg News for six years and is currently executive director of the Smith Family Foundation, which sponsors a monthly public policy forum that airs nationally on the Dish Network and also every Sunday night at 7 p.m. on Cablevision Network’s channel 18.

One of Mr. Bowdon’s documentary films “The Cartel” has been chosen for viewing in the Hoboken International Film Festival to be held starting May 30, 2009.”

Colin-

You are not paying attention. This morning estevens (Eric Kurta as he has made known many times) sent in this endorsement:

Over the weekend he posed in a Zimmer t-shirt in a Zimmer campaign PR shot.

“You are not paying attention.” So condescending… You remind me of someone…. 🙂

Seriously though check out my response to Naf. You were quoting another thread, I assumed we were on this thread about Vinny, Raul Jr and Angel ducking the debate.

And I’m sure you would agree that members of POG are allowed to have their own opinions as individuals.

I’ve posted here before that POG’s opening question in the mayoral debate was incredibly biased against Cammarano. I can think of plenty of knocks against Zimmer, and none of them are that she will *cut too much.* That question was a joke.

Also, Eric will you be doing an investigation into some of the payrolls that Helen Manogue has been on in the past?

No one is saying Cammarano is perfect, but I hope some of the undecided voters who read this site but don’t post, will take a close look at some of the so-called “reformers” in town. Look at what they’ve done and who they’ve endorsed in the past. They’ve pulled the wool over people’s eyes before.

Naf, I’m guessing a municipal worker in town would say that is the biggest “knock”. Might not be the biggest “knock” to you or I but to a section of town I’m sure it is.

Just saying

Zimmer looks utterly confused on certain questions especially about figures she has no idea of what the hospital situation is and the open space questions seemed like she thought parks are built with no money does she know the town is broke.. She also seemed to have no direction she alwalys seemed like she wanted to lean on others works to have an ansewer for hobokens problems like she did not have her own ideas or views. The part where she said her two children were to attend HHS i almost pissed my pants…

They were invited. They did not respond.

Oh, they’ll swear up and down that we never contacted them. I say we did. Believe what you will.

Maybe everyone has participated in enough POG debates. I would think as the president of POG that you would remain impartial at least in public but here you are giving endorsements for candidates and posing in Dawn Zimmer PR pieces. You’re seriously compromising POG’s integrity unless the underlying agenda is really to promote your favored candidates, in which case you should post that on your website and preface all debates with that information.

This is like having Rush Limbaugh set up debates for Obama & McCain.

What are you talking about? What endorsement has EStevens given? None that I see.

You seem oddly irritated that EStevens pointed out that the invite was ignored.

Just have Vinny and Raul Jr pull together their notecard answers from the last debate and we can get this thing going. They may have even memorized some answers by now.

Might want to check the record on that one Colin. estevens took part in a Zimmer campaign photo op this weekend. It should be noted more people voted for Tom Vincent than turned out for that photo op, by the way. I’m just sayin’…

RedHaven,

Check out my responses to JMan01 and Naf. I addressed what they said

My guess is you just responded to me to take a little jab “It should be noted more people voted for Tom Vincent than turned out for that photo op, by the way. I’m just sayin’…”

As far as that goes I don’t think you are in any position to critique a campaign these days. I’m just sayin’….

A little defensive, are we Colin? In poker we call that a “tell”. Since I didn’t call the shots for ANY campaign I can speak my mind at any time I please.

I thought the opening question was spot on. Petey to a T. As for the Zimmer question, isn’t the potential cuts & the whole Lenz issue pretty much what you Petey supporters use to distract everyone from the fact that the gravy train backs Petey? “We can’t cut the PD because we have 35K people coming here for the 4th of July, yada yada yada”.

Of course, I would have been much more rude had I asked the question. I might have tossed in the words looters, moochers & deadbeats in there somewhere.

Maybe Vinnie’s and Raul’s index cards got wet with all that rain we had right before the elections.
And by the way, there was only one debate with the council candidates.
Was there more than one and I was asleep and did not hear about it?
Colin or any one if there was anotherone beside the one at OLG please let me know.

This whole “debate” about whether or not the council candidates should debate again is kind of silly. None of the people demanding another council debate are planning to vote for anyone other than Marsh/Mello/Bhalla anyway.

It’s not like there was a big crowd at the first council debate, and I doubt there was a single undecided voter at the head-to-head Mayoral debate.

I’d rather hear more from Zimmer and Cammarano, since many important issues were skipped entirely last week. No direct question asked about the Western Edge, Neumann Leather, the future of the Northwest… I could go on and on. Much was left off the list, and splitting two hours up among six people seems like a waste of time at this point.

I don’t think its “silly” at all.
I will like to hear them speak and answer questions with out them having the question before hand.
If some people think is “silly” then they can stay at home.

Don’t you mean recite off of notecards? I really don’t consider that speaking so much as reading out loud. The 3 candidates that are capable of independent thought aren’t ducking the debate. But I agree w/ RH, not like we need a debate to know who is backing the gravy train & who isn’t.

He did call anyone who votes for Cammarano a “nitwit.”

Ok, I assume you are talking about a previous thread or something. I thought we were talking about the back and forth on this page.

Well maybe he was talking as EStevens the voter not as a representative of a group. People are allowed to have opinions as individuals.

I didn’t attend the debate. I watched the entire thing on channel 78. The night before the first election I met Dawn Zimmer. I was quite impressed by her. I decided that’s who I was going to vote for. I watched her at the debate. My opinion has completely changed. She came off as arrogant and combative. I don’t believe she has the experience to be mayor. Unless something major happens between now and June 9th. Peter Cammarano has my vote.
