More careless cooking!

5/18/2009:

Overheard on the Hoboken411 Live Police and Fire Action Channel this morning…

fire-621-garden-street-hoboken-nj

All bark and no bite

When:
At approximately 9:50am today.

What:
Reports of a “Working Fire” at 621 Garden Street.

First Response:
Initial company on scene reported that the three-story ordinary residential building had “heavy smoke” emanating from the windows.

What it was:
Within a minute or two – it was determined that some “food on the stove” was burning and was extinguished upon arrival. After about 15 minutes, the building was ventilated and all companies returned to service.

Translation: Good job HFD for the quick response to yet another false alarm.

Idea:
Someone needs to develop a “Pay Attention When Cooking” or “Be alert when playing with fire” awareness campaign. We already have campaigns for ridiculous “common sense” aspects of our lives, like seat belts, looking both ways when crossing the street, why not have another?
That is, unless Darwin’s Law should prevail.

A curious kid one can pony up some empathy for, although clearly there should have been supervision. There was no excuse for our neighbor who set off our building’s fire alarm, caused an evacuation, and sent the fire dept speeding to us because….wait for it….he was WELDING in the basement. Brainiacs of the world unite!

Did you ever recover a crispy critter, aka burned body?
One never knows.do one..A house goes up in three to
five minutes..Be thankfull it was not serious.

I’ve been thinking about getting rid of my stove, it takes up space in the kitchen and its only been used twice in 2 years.

Actually I use my toaster oven, microwave, George Foreman….the big stove is just annoying and gas kind of scares me (bad memories of grandparents throwing match to light stove)…

Ahhh. Makes sense. I use the microwave for reheating only, don’t even own a toaster oven, toaster or Foreman Grill. I guess I prefer to use the big appliance b/c I cook big meals…..lol
