Click It or Ticket!

5/18/2009:

Yes, it’s common sense, Dorothy

Today begins New Jersey’s statewide “Click it or Ticket” traffic safety program – whick helps bring awareness to the importance of wearing your seatbelt at all times while in a motor vehicle.

Hoboken was not one of the many cities that received grant money.

More about Click It or Ticket

“The May 2009 Click It or Ticket Mobilization will play a critical role in the effort to keep people safe on our nation’s roads and highways. From May 18 – 31, 2009 law enforcement agencies in New Jersey and nationwide will conduct Click It or Ticket campaigns that incorporate zero-tolerance enforcement of safety belt laws with paid advertising and the support of government agencies, local coalitions and school officials to increase safety belt use and defend against one of the greatest threats to us all – serious injury or death in traffic crashes.

Click It or Ticket is a high-publicity law enforcement effort that gives people more of a reason to buckle up – the increased threat of a traffic ticket. Most people buckle up for safety. But for some people, it is the threat of the ticket that spurs them to put on a safety belt. In Click It or Ticket programs, law enforcement agencies are asked to mobilize to focus on safety belt violations and publicize the stepped-up effort through news media and advertising. It is the two-pronged approach that makes these campaigns powerful: Not only are tickets issued to unbelted motorists, but the surrounding publicity ensures that people know they are more likely to get a ticket.

Click It or Ticket campaigns and similar efforts have increased safety belt use in cities, states and even in an entire region of the country. In New Jersey, 473 police agencies participated in the May 2008 Click It or Ticket Enforcement Mobilization. As a result of the enforcement and public information efforts, New Jersey’s seat belt usage rate has risen to an all-time high of 91.75%.”

Anyone who doesn’t wear there seat belt is an IDIOT!
I was just in an accident 3 weeks ago on rt. 78.
3 of us in the car. I was wearing my seat belt. the other 2 not wearing seat belts.
I walked away from the accident.
the other 2 had broken bones and now have months of rehab to look forward to.
WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT.
It’s not just the law. it’s common sense.

AKA local government fundraiser. Just another reason for the cops to look for possible revenue generating citations.

Last time they had one of these, I had my seatbelt on (I always wear it) but was ‘randomly’ pulled out of the line up of cars because my license plate frame (the one with the dealer name that came with the car when I bought it the month before) covered too much of the plate.

I got written up for an obstructed license plate and for no proof of insurance (I forgot to put the new card in the car and the temporary one had expired).

All told I was late for a meeting, out $350 for the two tickets and a half day of work to present the proof of insurance. And *I* was wearing my seatbelt. I can only imagine how much crap someone without their seatbelt on would get…
