Did you know that the Lincoln Tunnel originally had only two tubes?

Pictured below is the grand opening ceremonies on December 21, 1937!

It looks like their only celebrating the (now) center tube – even though the north portal is there, no one is trying to use it – it might not be done!

Are you sure that is from 1937? They planned 2 tunnels in the beginning, but only opened 1 in 1937. The other was delayed for many reasons, including a little war, and didn’t open until the 1940’s
