Paintball vandals plaguing Hoboken!

5/5/2009:

A few weeks ago – the Creative Groove Studio was blasted with paintballs – now a random apartment building had it’s windows shattered this past weekend.

Maybe this is a gang initiation ritual?

No respect to private property!

“I wanted to let you know that our building’s big front window was shattered last night approximately between midnight and 2am (4th St between Jefferson and Madison).

Along with the heaps of glass in the lobby the Police found a marble. I was curious what could propel a marble with enough force to shatter such a big heavy window so I did a little googling this morning. I discovered that a paintball gun loaded with a marble can produce just this result. Then I remembered the recent 411 article about another local building’s windows being spattered with red paint balls. Now I’m wondering if there’s someone running around town with a paintball gun who gets their kicks destroying property. By the way, if you have any information about this incident please let the HPD know about it.

Your building may be next!

When I lived on Willow Avenue a few years back, our building and the cars in front of our building were hit with yellow paint ball splats every night for about a week. Ends up, a teenager across the street was shooting them out his apartment window. The Police were promptly called by a neighbor and the kid was taken into custody for a verbal warning. It never happened again but maybe he’s all grown up now!

Look at the bright side: If you lived in Newark, the stuff coming out of the guns would NOT be paint.

You would run into an ammo size issue with the marbles which would probably either break the gun, or the marble would not get enough air pressure behind it to send it out of the barrel with enough force to break the window.

Most likely, someone used a sling shot, or a “wrist rocket”

a regular marble is considered 50 cal, a 1/4 inch ball bearing is a 30 cal.. I learned about wrist rockets and their ammo on grand jury duty. In both cases they were considered assult with a deadly weapon.

if you found the right marble size you would definitely have the air pressure – when is the last time you played paintball? the new guns are insanely powerful –

While it’s trivial to load and shoot marbles in a paintball gun (google it), Greg’s making some rather large jumps in logic here.

I agree with HomeTeam, it was most likely a slingshot.

Regardless, the perp should be shot with that marble…
