For a “group” that claims “transparency” one could see right through them at the MEMORIAL DAY PARADE. This town honors it’s heroes who gave their all, and the parade is supposed to reflect that. THIS YEAR it was more POLITICAL than respectful. A HUGE TRUCK TO ADVERTISE FOR A CANDIDATE, political signs with people walking at the end, one candidate using a “lame excuse” to be bused down Washington Street among those who were wounded in previous wars and did earn the respect of the crowd. Ex Mayor Capiello, obviously inebriated, waving his arms and bobbing his head up and down on the double decker bus, (appropriate for double dealing this year!)reminiscent of Richard Nixon, and the crowd cheering a dog walker (what war did he serve in?)…………. Where was the Reverend with the opening prayer? and the RABBI who usually speaks for a very short time? These things and the respect that is due OUR veterans was among the missing in action. TRANSPARENCY, claimed was certainly clouded this year, by bad politics, a reason many here do NOT VOTE….Now they have more of a reason, and I doubt if many will come out…WE’LL SEE>….. If you really want to see a respectful gathering concerning those who gave their all, and more, I invite you to PERSHING FIELD (Summit Avenue near Manhattan Avenue) ON THE REAL MEMORIAL DAY, MONDAY at 3 O’Clock where the JERSEY CITY VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL COMMITTEE will conduct a respectful service, with appropriate prayers, Taps, (this… Read more »
Actually, I know I should be shot in the head for saying this, but I am close to fed up with the reckless disregard that the City has with people’s time. The City shuts down Washington Street for myriad reasons, which is actually great and I don’t mind. What is horrible is that motorists are essentially left to fend for themselves. Without getting into specifics, I will say that it would be good to know at Observer/Newark/Marin/Grove/Jackson, that if I choose to drive past the PATH station at 7:30PM on a random Wednesday night in May that I will be stuck in 45 minutes of traffic without a chance to reverse my decision. Of course I won’t know this until I am at Frank Sinatra Park. Why does this happen? Because they refuse to post a patrolman to direct traffic at 11th/Hudson/Frank Sinatra Drive and at Hudson & 14th. My wife and son thank you, and I personally thank you for turning a 60 minute commute into a 105 minute commute for no good reason.
Dont you know that posting people to redirect/warn traffic would require someone in the police force or city govt. to do something, as opposed to the ussual do nothing that they love so well? events like this have as much planning and forethought as the rest of what this town does. I have never lived anywhere before where the city government did less responsible proactive governing. they are all a bunch of hacks without… Read more »
