I thought I made a comment earlier, but I guess it didn't post...

I like how the up/down voting works on sites like reddit and digg. The comments with more votes appear closer to the top, and the ones with negative votes get buried to the bottom.

Thank you.

And a friend in Italy said that rumors are circulating about EU shutting down personal blogs "which reveal secret information". About what, I have no idea-- I need as much information on this story as he does.

In response to MidnightRacer who said:

It's a disturbing trend, people wanting to (hatefully) shut down others for their opinions - in the name of supposed fascist tolerance. Whether it's the Fairness Doctrine (an administration appointment) meant to shut down some radio talk shows, cable news channels, or the U.K.'s move to ban Michael Savage from entering England based solely upon his views and opinions (that's the rationale they used), it's quite amazing to sit back and watch them do this... in 2009.

backlash remains concealed for just a bit

H411- Why is it that when we use the "reply" function, after the post goes through we are taken to the prior comment page? Meaning, if I "reply" to post 63 on page 4, my comment goes through but when my page reloads it takes me to comment page 3.

Just curious.

Thanks.

I'd rather express why I disagree with a comment-- and stand up for myself-- than childishly and secretly click on a negative button simply because "I don't like you".

Let's be real, here. We all know who's clicking on that thumbs-down button, Journey. I'll give you a clue: it's not me.

However, I will be clicking that thumbs-up for those with negative ratings whenever I have the chance. Enjoy!

Change is always optional. If a person's actions are getting the results they desire then they have no motive to change. If their actions are not earning the results they want, but they value their current state more than the desired results, no need to change.

I'm not threatened by the voting system, I don't visit Hoboken411 for external validation. If folks here like me or don't like me it is not that important to me.

Some people have expressed a dislike of this voting system, maybe they should ask themselves why they care about negative votes.

In response to mooshu who said:

On the other hand, maybe those dishing out the "negative" numbers are having a virtual field day as they confirm that sticks remain up their arses.

No one should have to change their feelings for anyone else. So I hope that this system lives for the two weeks and that's it. I can only handle the reign of control-freaks for so long...

Fair enough, H411. I was just making an observation. I look forward to seeing what the new features will be.

There are material impacts, actually. You just haven't seen them yet. But no worries...

In response to brian_g who said:

The ratings idea is ok but since the votes don't carry any material impact people are going to mostly ignore them.

There really is no incentive to get positive votes or avoid negative votes.
