Who (not) to vote for…

5/1/2009:

A reader email to start the early morning crowd off…

Phony Campaign Promises…

“Hey 411,

I went to the debate Tuesday night. Looks like a strong group of candidates who generally want what I want for Hoboken. Attached, a campaign handout from certain other candidate that says all of the right things to get my vote. I’m not votin’ for that guy again… no matter what his name is.

Red Haven, I would agree that it’s a great idea to speak to the candidates. But I doubt that Beth is hosting other candidates. I have tried to ask her questions and she did when I said hello one evening on Washington.

But in retrospect I wasn’t pleased with the answers. To be fair, maybe I will pop by and ask again. Not sure how that will change the perspective on the Church Towers vote and the pro-development alliance now.

Like what Tom Vincent had said about development. That we are already overdeveloped. Funniest line to that, a couple of years ago a local police officer said to me, “If this town all flushed the toilet at the same time, the whole place would be under water.”

Maybe if someone beats me to the event this evening they can convey that to Beth. But would it matter?

This is SmartyJones, America’s most beloved horse and I approve this message. Not to be construed as an endorsement for any town “Association,” county “machine,” an unpaid advertisement for Peter “The Condescender” Camma-RAT-0 or any Dave Roberts crony.

What a cop out from Katie!

Instead of letting anonymous internet comments full of smear, innuendo and downright false information guide your voting decision, you should meet all the candidates and decide for yourself. Here’s a perfect opportunity tonight:

A Conversation with Beth Mason 7pm – 9pm
Campaign Headquarters, 315 Washington St. Hoboken, NJ 07030 Wine and snacks will be served.

Beth and her team are anything but shy. Ask them the hard questions that Katie_Scarlett is too timid to ask in person and see how they answer. Seriously, the internet is not the only place you should be getting your candidate info. Meet all of them and make your decision.

I think even indiecom would agree with me on that point.

One thing I agree with you about is that you should use a variety of sources to make your determination on who to vote for. Debates, candidates websites, etc…

But its pretty funny to see you of all people complaining about “anonymous internet comments full of smear, innuendo and downright false information”

And nice job calling out Katie_Scarlett for whatever reason. At least you didn’t outright threaten her this time. We are making progress I suppose

Yes, I absolutely agree, RH. I wouldn’t make a decision without speaking with all of the candidates.

Love the fact you bring me into this. I’m not too timid to ask them anything in person, I just have seen enough of their position/Beth’s votes to know I have nothing left to ask.

A lot of broken records here, who aren’t changing anyone’s mind.

Proposal: will the usual suspects make their final statements in support of their candidate/against the candidate they don’t like and, please, realize that at this stage you’re not converting anyone. As a matter of fact, there’s a good chance that you’re turning people against your candidate.

Stone cold true. Two of Beth’s most prominent supporters (guess who?) have convinced me to vote for someone else. The intrigue, the innuendo, the drama, the hubris… it makes me want to hurl.

Who not to vote for: Beth Mason
Reason: She’s clearly running for power for the sake of power. And, Mike Russo came out and endorsed her this weekend. ‘Nuff said.

Been on the fence for a while, and I’m choosing Mason. Was blown away at the amount of history she has with fighting city hall which says alot about her true conviction. definitely not out of the blue thats for sure.

If anything, Zimmer obviously seeks power because she doesn’t even have any accomplishments in the 4th ward prior to running for higher office. Did you see her write up in the paper today? She handed out memos at her previous jobs.

Cammarano is a dud IMO.

Well NorthKrissy, we all respected Beth Mason for her fight against Dave Roberts. Then she announced for mayor, hired three count’em three PR firms and is looking for high NJ office. In doing so, she’s decided that supporting the old guard was okay and embraced the old political machine in Hoboken which if you happen to be around 5th and Adams Street, you’ll see their “Association” and Beth Mason signs. She’s surrendered town support for helping teachers, fire and police folks in our town get moderate housing in Church Towers by supporting the continued subsidy of those making far into six figures live there while purchasing and owning other real estate at the shore and in Hoboken. She’s taken an aggressive tact in favor of the real estate developers in Hoboken and put one of their kids on her ticket who couldn’t answer one question at the City Council forum without reading prewritten notes. Things have changed. And so has Beth Mason. She’s now “bigger” than Hoboken. Embracing the corrupt political machine is now just the political calculus necessary for bigger and better things. She sold us out. Sign me disappointed. In response to NorthKrissy who said: Been on the fence for a while, and I’m choosing Mason.
