Clever thief scams restaurant patrons

4/18/2009:

Forgot to mention this the other day – but overheard on the Hoboken411 Live Police and Fire Action Channel….

Lesson: Pay attention, people

waiter-walking.jpgThis past Thursday night, a crafty man posing as a “waiter” conned two groups of people at two different restaurants in town.

Victims described the guy as a mid-20’s white male with spiked hair – wearing a typical waiter outfit (khakis, black button down shirt, etc.)

The first incident was over at Hobson’s Choice at around 7:30pm – and the other two hours later at Margherita’s. In both cases, the guy approached diners after they had completed the tab (money & check on table) – asked if they “needed anything else,” then took the money and never returned.

I suppose this reminds you that during the course of your meal, you might want to observe who the employees are – and not just hand over money to anyone.

On the other hand, I told some of my friends about this incident, and they said “What a great idea this guy had!”

At least you can say the economic trouble we’ve been in can lead to creativity!

I laughed my ass off hearing people getting duped at Hobson’s into giving a WAITER their check. I’m guessing they’ve never been there before.

Um, I mean, that’s what I WOULD say if I were the guy who pulled this off. 😕

Are you saying that Hoboken Tax dollars were used to put security cameras inside private businesses (that is what #1 was saying)? Which ones?
