City vehicles for personal use?
A Hoboken411 reader believes that city vehicles shouldn’t be used for personal purposes – such as picking kids up from school.
A liability for taxpayers – and waste of resources
“I thought I would bring this to your attention. I noticed that the Hoboken Parking Utility Pick up is picking up kids on the Clinton Street near the board of ed entrance ever week day when schools ending. I do not think the kids are paid employees of the town. Must be their kids but I do not think it is safe and should not be done on tax payers money.
I used to work for a town and you could not have any non-employees in the vehicle for safety reasons let alone their kids. So if someone does get hurt the tax payers money will be accountable for medial and possible law suit. As well as our tax paying money going to waste with this individual on the clock and not on their time.
Yesterday: The truck arrived on Clinton street behind Wallace school 2:20 and left at 2:45. There is also the time spent dropping off at home. Child should not be driving in municipal vehicle that is not a town employee.
Solution: Let the person picking them up take their break time and use their own car. This should be reported and it is a abuse to the employee time and vehicles.”
