Hobokenpix: Dumpy looking building

Hoboken Photo of the Day – 4/6/2009

Does anyone know the deal with this shoddy looking apartment building over at 7th and Grand Streets?

For all I know, the interior could be immaculate, with granite counter tops – bamboo flooring and all sorts of other amenities. However, what’s going on with the exterior? Don’t all buildings in Hoboken have to to meet some kind of standard? Then again, maybe they’re exempt because no other buildings are next to it. What’s the deal with the dumpiest looking building in town?

PS – if you have images collecting dust on your camera or hard drive – send them in for eventual inclusion on Hoboken411! Please state how you’d like to be credited in your email, and a description – if desired!!
Sorry to be cynical but I thought from the start c_lass”s post was “supposed” to be funny. Agreed with the posts that like Hoboken to be varied. Our condo is 120 yrs. old and the floors and ceilings are so lopsided- things on wheels will roll down floors if not positioned correctly. Face it, people, the charm and views are what makes Hoboken unique, so accept it all, superficially pretty or not.
You’re right. I was being facetious. I thought it was a stupid criticism–the building looks way more interesting than any of the new cookie-cutter buildings designed by Dean Marchetto–and I thought the comment possibly could hurt the feelings of the people who live there.

Someone from this building, let’s call him Mr. bachelor, was cleaning up last summer. While it’s always good to see people clean, he was so fucking lazy to actually put the stuff in a garbage bag and take it downstairs like the rest of us, so he was throwing books, shoes, clothes, and all sorts of crap from the second floor balcony to a trash can on the street. Oh yea, and he was shirtless showing off his abs of Jelly.

Yea, I’ve had a bunch of roommates since I moved in here, some lazier than others. I’m pretty sure I know who that was and thank God, he moved out a few months ago. He ate a huge plate of nachos every Sunday for breakfast, washed it down with a 2 liter of coke, and then onto his gallon of ice cream. Fat, lazy, and disgusting. You had to watch it, I had to live with it.
Oh bro I’m sorry you had to live with that, and glad he moved out. Other than him, to be honest, I’ve seen nothing bad. I think the building is cool, it only needs the brick cover to be finished. I can see they got started, but it looks like they decided to stop.

Good luck man!

Technically, it may be in violation of various City ordiances, such as § 136-2(9), “Failing to keep every dwelling … every part thereof, including the roof, walls, floors, … in a state of sound repair and in a clean and sanitary condition.”
