Readerpix: W Hotel

4/3/2009:

Hoboken411 reader Barbara sent in this picture taken near the W Hotel last week…

Hoboken411 reader photo of the day – 4/3/2009

“Thursday March 25, 2009 – a gray misty day – The big red “W” sign is up, and all the little red “W” signs, too … I guess opening day is coming up for Hoboken’s newest hotel! -The newly planted trees (Instant curb appeal!?) will hopefully soften the otherwise stark appearance of this building! We have Hoboken residents who still remember Meyer’s Hotel, The Grand, Hotel Victor etc – how many of us will still be in Hoboken and remember the tree-planting day and opening of the “W” Hotel 50 years from now?
Greetings, Barbara”

[Stay tuned for tomorrow’s Readerpix entry! – Note: one reader’s photo(s) will be featured each day at approximately 11am. Unless your photo is time-sensitive – it will be published in the order it was received! Additional note: Your pictures will have a better chance of being published if they’re in “landscape” mode, as opposed to the taller “portrait” modes… ]

Where did you get that info from? The Daily News claims they sold out at “record prices”.

Maybe that’s like when Xanadu claimed they were 70% leased.[/quote]

They may have sold at record prices, but my guess is most folks are walking away from their deposits.

Have to agree that this is one ugly building.

I think they are mostly sold, if not all, but the closings are only happening now

now that the tower is up and nearly completed and people are enjoying the new place i can say without hesitation that it is completely out of place on our waterfront. it is an insult to the historic architecture within blocks of the place. the elected officials and city employees charged with approving building designs have once again proven that are unqualified to be trusted with this responsibility and are not only uneducated in historic design and city planning but are also lacking in anything that could even loosely be described as “good taste.”

only two of the condos have actually closed. i hope it does well too… they just need to get rid of the mice that run around… like they do with any new construction. it just sucks to be in yiour $300 a night room and seeing mickey scurry across the floor… 🙁 😥
