What’s this environmental sign for?

3/30/2009:

In case any of you were wondering – there are a couple of these signs on various buildings uptown, but it’s nothing to worry about. Just routine safety measures.

It’s just some tank removal

Dresdner Robin is handling these procedures and said:

“The environmental investigations are being conducted voluntarily on behalf of the property owners. These properties are undergoing investigations consistent with those required by NJDEP Technical Requirements for Site Remediation. This work includes the preparation of Preliminary Assessment Reports, performance of site investigations of soil and groundwater and preparation of associated reporting and the removal of Underground Storage Tanks (USTs).”

If you look at the DEP website there is a large cloud of ground water contamination in that area. Looking at the blob on the map it seems to be coming form the gas stations. Probably the old tanks that are long gone.

Am I nuts to think that this town has more than enough places for people to move into?

I guess this is the precursor for “Develop or Die”.

The property owners are interested in building 300 condominiums and a massive office complex at the northern entrance to town, according to records submitted to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA).

Park Willow petitioned the EDA last year for partial funding to cleanup contamination underneath many of the buildings and was granted $1 million in reimbursement if their proposed development gets built, according to sources knowledgeable of the situation. EDA representatives did not return calls last week.

Several buildings in the region have signs on them saying they are the focus of an ongoing cleanup.
