Hoboken parking irony

3/21/2009:

Slap in the face

Found myself downtown the other day – and noticed this car parked smack dab in the middle of the sidewalk (with police shields and crap in the window). I chalked it up as “business as usual” in Hoboken – until I noticed the tickets on the cars parked in the street. And at the same time – a girl was coming up to one of those cars to remove her ticket and drive away.

I said “whoa, wait a minute – you know this car here on the sidewalk has no ticket?” – her response was, “yeah I’m used to it.” And on top of that, she said that the cars being serviced by the Napa auto mechanic on the corner often park on the street and never receive summonses (while other residents cars do).

Like I said, “business as usual in Hoboken.”
Speaking of parking on the sidewalk. There’s a motorcyle with a cover over it that is parked on the sidewalk on Madison between 3rd and 4th behind the St Francis Church parking lot.
There’s a motorcycle parked on the sidewalk on the east side of Bloomfield around 7th or 8th that’s been there for YEARS. It’s partly under a tarp. How long has it been there? Its registration has been expired since at least 2005!

technically the sign is for street parking, it doesn’t say anything about sidewalk parking : )

LMAO!

On the bright side, at least this douche isn’t parked vertically along the sidewalk.

Napa never gets a ticket for cars parked there, even for street cleaning parking. The car sitting there right now has been on the street since there was snow. They moved it there after a big storm and the tires were four inches off the ground before the melt. You can see the amount of trash and dirt under the car as the street cleaner never gets a chance to do the job. Also, many times, the cars do not have Hoboken parking permits and the Napa side is the “tow-side,” but that may not apply to that block. In fact, all up that side of the street, the cars are never ticketed for street cleaning days.

You have to dodge cars in from of Napa everyday since they park them on the sidewalk when waiting to enter the garage. I can live with that, since if a car needs to be moved (wheel chair or grocery cart) – you can bang on the windows. But the taking up of valuable parking is not very neighborly.
