Hoboken Photo of the Day – 3/14/2009

In an effort to make use of some of the 1000’s of random pictures I’ve taken recently – here’s a shot of United Synagogue at 115 Park Avenue.

Re 3., krew: One’s a synagogue, the other’s not—the latter serves ancillary functions for the temple (Kaplan, etc.).

I recall the congregants did a wonderful capital campaign to incorporate the adjacent northern space & then renovated; plus ongoing preservation efforts for the temple itself.

While you might prefer a consistent site-line, the buildings serve different functions & perhaps the roof-scape does well to distinguish that.

These two buildings are a nice blend of old and new but I would love to see a roof decoration to match and balance the onions.

The old temple is a beautiful building undergoing careful restoration. The synagogue members deserve a lot of credit for their work.

Very nice…and odd– was just there, yesterday, after three years.

Beautiful building! Too bad they put their garbage out everyday by 4pm! Not only does it look terrible, but the garbage usually ends up all over the neighborhood by the evening. Either the bums rip through it, or the wind blows it all over… Aren’t there laws against putting garbage out so early, or is it exempt?? 🙁
