Hoboken411 reader and local attorney Frank Marciano found this gem of an article while researching a case: from an 1896 edition of the NY Times!

Because of the “Raines Law” enacted in New York back in March of 1896, which prohibited alcohol consumptions on Sundays – tens of thousands of New Yorkers flocked to the Mile Square:
