Hobokenpix: Boots!

Hoboken Photo of the Day – 3/11/2009

Here’s a picture of a Hoboken Parking Utility pickup truck parked in front of McSwiggan’s on the corner of First and Bloomfield yesterday (it was blocking the intersection and one truck couldn’t make the turn).

Anyway, I heard that on St. Patrick’s Day, “they booted close to 500 cars!” Not sure how accurate that is (it came from a city employee), but would be insane if true! No wonder they don’t want to get rid of the parade! It’s a money machine! You’d think with all the crazy cash Mile Square Towing makes, they’d be driving around in $400k Mercedes tow trucks and flatbeds.

Remember back in the good ol’ Russo days, when cars were towed WITHIN MINUTES of being illegally parked? Pino’s fleet of tow trucks was constantly on the move in town. After all, the more tow-jobs there are, the more money going to… ah I won’t get into that.

Scene: Parking Utility office
Moderater:”Come to order”
Dr. Spock: ” I have an extremely logical plan. If someone parks a car in the rightful spot of a resident in a “resident zone”, we’ll immobilize it so they can’t move it right away.”
Moderator: “Good idea. That way we can inconvenience EVERYONE and make money.”
Dr. Spock: -reaction shot – look askance.

fern – totally agree!!!!

The 48 hour rule sounds like something the council could change – I’ll send a letter suggesting it. 😀

I agree with boot and tow! Unfortunately the rule right now is if you get booted you have 48 business hours to return the boot or you get towed. So if you get booted on Friday at noon you have until Tuesday at noon to move it and all that time you are taking a spot away from a resident. There are a lot of people who have been parking here on friday night and spending the weekend in the city. That should change soon – I saw 12 boots on the resident side of Sinatra Drive at 8a.m. on Saturday morning. I think they should boot 24/7!
Booting cars benefits the residents – 99% of the boots applied are on non-residents parked on the resident only side of the street.
You know what would really benefit residents? Boot AND TOW!!!! The boot is great, to be sure, but tow the damn offenders & free up the parking spot (for another offender $$$ or for a resident).
