Gunpoint robbery: Newark & Adams

2/26/2009:

Downtown gun crime

Minutes in the past, a woman on the way home to her residence at 700 Grove (in Jersey City) – was robbed at gunpoint near Newark and Adams Street.

The suspect is a black male, 6′ tall, “puffy coat.” No color of coat given. The actor was last seen walking west on Newark past the firehouse. Cops are trying to get a better description from the victim now.

With respect….what IS all this about guns—who has them, drawing same, etc.—?

Do you REALLY want to be packing a pistol in this small town, en route home?

If so, do you REALLY want to live here if you really feel that way?

easy-e, i think you are right that you wouldn’t be able to draw if someone pointed a gun at you. that’s not really the point though. the point is – if people were aware of many people being gun carriers, then there would be less muggings – theoretically.

i think when a perp says he has a gun, he most likely doesn’t. pull your coat aside to show him your hand on yours – and what’s he going to do? i bet walk away. but again – it would require to be responsible gun owners – big big condition.

hans – i’ve had a lawyer explain to me that a woman could be getting raped by a man that is large, muscular, and has a knife. and if she shoots him – she could be tried for excessive force.

i was in disbelief, i brought up a whole bunch of scenarios. he said the bottom line is you’d have to prove you weren’t using excessive force. so without some sort of evidence that you were about to die (gun shot at you, knife stabs, etc), you would most likely get charged with something. it’s unreal – but the criminals have rights too.

if you’re shooting someone in self defense, the proper thing to do is incapacitate, not kill. but i’d rather kill the bastard.

othername you’re right. i’d be fearful of a woman that carried a gun in her purse. that’s pretty stupid really. it could go off accidentally. the best and really only place to put a gun if carrying it is in a holster in a safe spot on your body. ask plax, he knows how to do it. lol.

many people should learn some self defense, in some form, and carry something that can help them out.
