Car windows getting smashed on 5th

2/21/2009:

If you’re parked in the neighborhood of 5th and Adams, you might want to check your car.

A report came in over the Hoboken411 Live Police and Fire Channel a couple minutes ago “A man with a baseball bat smashing car windows – heading west towards the projects from 5th and Adams. About 4 or 5 cars were damaged…”

No real description other than “Male with a black jacket with reflective tape…”

Thank you SO much for mentioning the fact that calls are recorded by these (more often than not) lazy idiots! There’s no excuse for any member of the police department to pass-off an emergency call, and I hope that the dispatcher who’d pretty much sent homeworld to the shithouse is eventually held responsible for his/her neglect.

I tried reporting this to 911, as per my “rants” comment, but they wanted to have nothing to do with it.
201-420-2101. I have it programmed in my cell phone. Why bother with 911 when you can call the Hoboken police directly? They are the ones who would be responding anyways, and it cuts a few seconds off asking to get transferred to them.
As the crime was happening, it was easier to dial 911, then thumb through the contacts on my phone. The 911 dispatcher told me I had to hang up and call the Hoboken Police instead. By that point I had forgotten the license plate number that I gave her, and they had driven away.
911 call are recorded. You should inform the Hoboken police that you told the license plate number to the operator. They’ll probably be able to retrieve the recording.

oh well. i don’t know why they couldn’t connect you to the hoboken PD – but I would have called the PD even without the plate at that point. I hate car vandalism.
