Do you guys know how many times I’ve made sure of eye contact that drivers head right for you anyway? It’s happened to me as a pedestrian, while riding my bike, and in a car at a all way stop. I wouldn’t count on that if I were you. Look for more than enough distance.

Most of the time, it’s happened on the bike. They see you, but their timing is just way off in thinking they can turn in front of you before you get there, or are too anxious to go and try to turn instantly after you go by but almost clip you regardless. I think that’s why pedestrians get hit in town.
i don’t do it on my bike, only while walking. when you’re standing on the corner, and you make eye contact with the driver, they will either acknowledge you or not, and that’s how you know if you can cross. if they don’t acknowledge you, they intend on driving through the intersection without stopping for you.

i’ve yet to really have a close call except for the one time a guy ran a stop sign entirely, but it still wasn’t even a “close” call.
My stupid pedestrian story of the night: While driving down Jefferson, a moron wearing all black shot out from behind an SUV like one of those Olympic speed-walkers, headphones on, and never even turned his head toward the street to see if any cars were coming. I had a stop sign (which I obeyed), but would YOU exhibit blind trust that most drivers around here would stop? I know I wouldn’t.
if a car is approaching and I want to cross, I assume he’s not going to stop, and I look directly into the car at the driver (stop sign or not). I wait until I make eye contact with the driver before I even consider stepping off the curb. There’s no reason to ever blindly trust someone behind 2,000+ pounds of steel.
As pedestrian I used to watch until I meet eye contact with a driver both when they had a stop sign and not. Now with a stroller to push, I wait for the driver to signal me out into the cross walk. I don’t trust the drivers here.
Works both ways. As i driver, i wouldnt trust that you won’t just throw yourself into the middle of the st. At least no one gets hurt this way

I’m wondering if he feels the same way about George Carlin.
