The patient that you are referring to did not "bleed to death" post surgery. He lived for three (3) years after the erroneous surgery. Further, this man was a heavy smoker for many years so both of his lungs were diseased (COPD) by the time surgery was performed. This was reported in the Jersey Journal. Was the wrong lung operated on? Absolutely. However, this patient's life expectancy was limited long before any surgery was performed.

In response to BarbaraR56 who said:

I am not too comfortable with the Board at HUMC for reinstating the pulmonary surgeon who removed part of a patient's lung (BTW the wrong lung, the left was cancerous)causing the patient to bleed to death. Yes, we all sign before operations and choose our surgeons, we believe what they are telling us, after all they are the medical professionals, but how can you remove part of the lung that is not diseased? Yes, he is human and makes mistakes, but not with my life thank you very much. I am a pulmonary patient myself, let's hope if I have another emergency with my lung he is not on-call that day/night. This just keeps getting worse over there.

I have to agree, though I did not support her in the mayoral races, she has been asking for these reports for years. It's time to "own" up to this. HUMC has been floundering for years now, the ER still hasn't been enough incentive for bringing in new patients as they had hoped. Though I feel sympathy for the employees who will lose their jobs, the handwriting is clearly on the wall!

Let's only hope this place closes. Terrible ER doctors that have botched literally five cases that I have heard about from close friends. Have heard good things about the baby center but the place is a complete joke from my own personal experience. Put a Fairway there...

I just read the update, no kidding the reduction in employee salaries will not be given back. Unfortunately in this economic situation everyone is probably saying a give back is better than unemployement or no benefits. JMHO but those employees who are retirement age, go! While their benefits will be gone, there are enough competitive packages out there to purchase your own. They can still collect their pensions from HUMC and unemployment, since one thing doesn't have to do with the other. I think HUMC (since it is much smaller than Secaucus' facility) can probably sell for about 12million. HUMC is counting on their medical personnel to bring in more patients. We'll see what happens now. Rutherford and the surrounding areas counted on Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus now they will either have to use Hackensack, Holy Name (Teaneck) St. Joseph's (Paterson), Clara Maas (Belleville) all of which are about 5-10 miles away.

Secaucus Hospital just sold for 16 Million

Remember when Mayor Roberts thought "Hey if it fails we will just sell it! The Real Estate alone is worth 60-70 Million"

Bon Scours gave you the Hospital for free!!!! Wasn't that a little red flag Davey Boy?
