Gunpoint robbery: 1st & Jefferson

1/21/2009:

Gun produced, cash and goods stolen

Overheard on the Hoboken411 Live Police and Fire Action Channel minutes ago:

The police dispatcher reported that a robbery at gunpoint took place at 1st and Jefferson Streets about 45 minutes in the past. An Apple laptop, an iPhone, a set of keys and a sum of cash was allegedly stolen. The suspects were reported to be two Hispanic males, wearing all black – thin build – and the one who produced the handgun was the taller of the two – at approximately 6 foot 1.

Be aware!

hoboken seems to be a town of grandstanding and theatrics. maybe because the corrupt underbelly leads to an implicit understanding that no one will actually do any work. whether it be Dave “Scissorhands” Roberts ribbon-cutting shows or, along the lines of the police response UrbanRose highlights…i see the same thing every time there is a fire call. you get like 4 trucks racing to the scene. you mean to tell me that when they first get the call they are COMPLETELY IN THE DARK as to what the possible magnitude of the incident is?! 95% of the time it’s probably some fire alarm going off inadvertently. why the show? why 4 fire trucks? all blaring their alarms and parking in the middle of the street like it’s a movie set. that seems very amateurish to me.
Its so funny. Every time I see a fight or an arrest on washington street I see 4 or 5 cop cars pull up. Always 4 cars sometimes 5! I would estimate that 4 or 5 cars is 80% of the patrolling cops at any weekend night. When they respond to these incidents I bet burglars and muggers are listening to the scanner and commit crimes knowing the cops are tied up elsewhere. Its been said before but put two segway cops on each light rail station. One cop near aquaduct, one on 14th and washington, one near PATH, and have 4 more patroling 4 quadrants. If theres a fight, have two cars respond and have the 2 others broaden their patrol until they make it back. Have some sort of plan implemented. Let the segways cops patrol a small one block radius around the lightrail.
They may be staging fights just to distract the cops. I like this idea as well. Nearly all of the crime that occurs in Hoboken is caused by those coming from outside (mostly Jersey City).

I was thinking that what they could do is have someone constantly monitoring the cameras on and around the light rail stations. Whenever they see some suspicious people getting off at these stations they should notify local patrol units who will monitor them until they are out of Hoboken.

Also, enforce curfew laws in Hoboken.

You should be the new chief of police…lmfao …. It’s sad, how you probably don’t have any PD experience; but, are so right. Meanwhile, A police director, chief and capt. can’t come up with your solution on their own. Nothing po’s me more than to see 2 cops in one police car. Separate=more man power to circle this square mile.

I never ever remember seeing a cop walk a beat in hoboken and I’m talking a long time. In the 50’s there was 1 cop that walked a beat on washington st and that was mon-fri on the day shift, that’s it. Anywhere else never, there was a time where there was “rent a cops” that patroled the parks and some other areas and that was from about 7pm until 10pm.mon to fri.,crime wasn’t allowed on weekends.
