Ultra cold weather sucks!
The end of this week is really gonna blow for me – since I refuse to wear long pants. I’ve made it a couple years now without – and the next three days will be a huge test.

ON THE HEELS OF A STRONG COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE EARLY THIS MORNING… ARCTIC AIR WILL SURGE ACROSS THE AREA ON BRISK NORTHWEST WINDS. TEMPERATURES WILL FALL SHARPLY OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS… RESULTING IN THE FREEZING OF ANY STANDING WATER ON UNTREATED ROADWAYS AND SIDEWALKS. IN ADDITION… THE STRONG GUSTY WINDS AND FALLING TEMPERATURES WILL RESULT IN WIND CHILLS NEAR OR SLIGHTLY BELOW ZERO ACROSS PARTS OF THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY… WITH THE SINGLE DIGITS ELSEWHERE.”
A lesson on shoveling – it’s not that hard!
Speaking of this freezing – nothing is more annoying than not having sure footing while you walk around Hoboken. And with the melting snow that we’ve had the past couple days – might mean some slippery spots in areas. As you can see in the gallery below – they didn’t even do a good job shoveling or plowing common public pathways, like at Pier A Park. And then there are developer properties like the Clam Broth Corporate Center on Newark, which was a total mess – days after the recent snow!
It’s simple:
- Shoveling while it snows is a nice courtesy – but at least shovel once the snow stops!
- Salt is really helpful. Please buy a bag or two. This helps maintain traction just in case there is melt-off and re-freezing.
- Check the conditions regularly – they may change, ya know?

There was an island somewhere in the Pacific in which two warring tribes could be recognized by the length of plants they wore; the Long Pants vs the Short Pants.
Through out their history, the Short Pants made fun of the Long Pants because their island was mostly tropical with a moderate climate. The Short Pants even claimed that the extra materials the Long Pants were using, and the extra fabrication time it took to stitch them together caused the island to become warmer and warmer – which was a benefit to Short Pants tribe.
The Long Pants and Short Pants built massive rock sculptures of long pants and short pants which faced the open waters of the Pacific watching, waiting for the one to return, the one who taught them how to stitch and sew. They even adorned the sculptures with red belts as hats. Each one looking out, waiting. The Long Pants believe it would be a long time before the one returned. The Short Pants thought the one would return shortly.
But then the winters began to get colder and colder, much against the Short Pants’ predictions. The Long Pants kept making their long pants, and the Short Pants tribe resisted the facts staring at them and stubbornly adorned short pants – much to their discomfort. The winters became frigid and deathly bitter. And then one day civil war broke out. The Short Pants attacked the Long Pants and slaughtered them, and then they turned on themselves, everyone tried to grab as many long pants as they could carry, even grabbing from their own families, tearing the long pants to shreds. And then there were no more pants left to wear at all.
