HUMC Rumor is false

1/11/2009 Update:
Joan Quigley from the Hoboken University Medical Center said that any and all claims that this rumor had any merit are false. See comment section for her response.
1/10/2009:

A Hoboken411 reader (who requested anonymity) said he was told about a supposed heinous crime that took place outside Hoboken University Medical Center last week. Obviously, this hasn’t been confirmed, hence the title “Rumor Mill” and the associated question mark.
Has anyone heard about this?
Media hush hush?
“I was told that early Thursday morning, around 7:30 a.m., a nurse leaving her shift at Hoboken University Medical Center, was raped in broad daylight, in public view, between two parked cars. And there hasn’t been so much as a peep out of the town or the local media. I don’t know all details. Am pretty sure it was 730, but folks have been told not to tell anyone.”
If this is true, and the police and HUMC are keeping it quiet – what do you think the reasoning is?

Honestly, I really think it was a bad choice to post a rumor of this kind and I think you should shy away from doing so in the future. To say you would rather “err on the side of caution” isn’t the right move.
Anyway, I can’t imagine to begin with anyone from the hospital or the town keeping something like this under wraps. Heads would roll if it happened again and it ever got out there was a cover up of a first incident.

Hey. A mistake like this is NOWHERE near as huge as the amount of ignorant posters on this site who find themselves entitled to this, that and the other. So let’s get over it, m’kay?

I’m not sure whether it’s more appropriate to label that “sensationalism” or “fear-mongering”, but either way it’s pretty weak, regardless of whether you consider this a news site, a “community” site, or Perry’s Funtime Gossip Corner.

People are you f*cking serious? Perry runs this site and always has the most current, up-to-date information regarding this city. Then, he posts with the intent to fore-warn people if indeed there is a rapist, and you guys want to tattoo INRI on his forehead. That is just ridiculous. Considering, their is a “possible” rapist on the HPD you never know. So Perry, No need for an apology, just continue doing your thing and a great job you are doing at it. To the rest, No harm no foul.

Ditto. I live in that neighborhood. I was skeptical of this rumor from the start (see post 1), but I’d rather make up my own mind as to its likely truth based on the info provided. Besides, it came with the disclaimer that it was just a rumor, so WTF is the problem?

I think what really bothers me more, is the people that have the balls to state the negativity are probably the ones who log on Morning/Noon/Night for information.

Based on an anonymous email!!!!There was no merit to it whatsoever. There wasn’t one iota of fact to back it up!!!
So from now on, every time someone sends something in it gets a thread to scare people??? There’s a possible axe murder running loose at City Bistro. Can we start a thread until there’s a confirmation???

I’m going to close this thread now.
I was going to add some more information about this that I learned recently, but will keep that to myself until it’s substantiated.
Does anyone else find it interesting that Quigley signed up so quickly to refute this? “Damage control?”
But we’ll let this fizzle out now instead…
