tnd2010 – the question is… are you still looking for a photographer to shoot your wedding? I am a photographer and would be happy to discuss with you what it is you are looking for.and help guide you in the right direction. Choosing a photographer can be overwhelming. There are so many, especially in the metro ny area. And it’s safe to say majority of wedding photographers are not real “artists” just a business with a high price tag. So where do you find someone creative and reasonably priced? It’s easier than you think with this recession at hand… there are many that can fit your criteria, including myself. Given this economy, it’s not the time to be closing the door on any potential customer 😀

[quote comment=”144598″]Hey Easy-E, so here’s how I approached it (and really, I should just move on, per strand tramp, but I can’t resist). I had a bunch of photographers on my list that I thought were pretty good (when I reviewed their online portfolios). However, I knew I couldn’t meet with all of them, and it didn’t make sense to meet with all of them. My budget is set at $X – photography is important to my fiance and I, but we’re not trying to go into debt just because we love great photos. However, we’re willing to pay up to a certain amount for a good photographer. Since most photographers (this one included) don’t include pricing on their site, I asked them for a quote based on what we wanted. We didn’t want all the extras that’s typically included in photographers’ packages. We only wanted certain things, and since most packages are priced based on having those extras, it was important for us to get a sense of pricing for just what we needed. If the cost of those things were too high, then it didn’t make sense for either side to go forward. It’s not like I was asking this photographer to lower their prices for us. Whatever they want to charge is their prerogative — my goal was to determine if they were affordable given our means. I’m not sure how I disrespected anyone here. I didn’t discount the value of what I was asking them to… Read more »

If you’re more concerned with price first, you probably shouldn’t be looking to hire a studio. It’s about time for my bi-yearly agreement with something ST said. Wedding industry is a f^@&ing scam. Have you thought of checking out photography students at any of the local art schools? You could probably find a very talented senior or grad student who could do it and keep within your budget. You’re going to have to do more footwork if you want to save money. Going to a studio like this, and just asking for a quote and refusing to meet with them… Their response was appropriate. So in the end, they were as dismissive of you as you were of them. Unprofessional?? As defined by who’s standards? Imagine you are used to a certain level of client in whatever you do for a living. Someone approaches you as a potential client, and all they are concerned with is a dollar number. If you were buying sacks of flour, or lumber, lightbulbs etc, who gives a crap, you don’t need to meet with suppliers. If you’re hiring someone for a task that is for an important event, why WOULDN’T you insist on meeting with them?? These people will be interspersed with your guests after all, you don’t think it’s important to get a sense of their personality too? It’s so dismissive I don’t blame them for getting some passive-agressive digs in at you, because you’re not serious, just like the 20 other people… Read more »
