Parking hang tag ripoff!!
The following Hoboken411 Reader Mail comes from “Disgruntled Parking Pass Buyer…”:
Zero cooperation at the Hoboken Parking Utility
“I wanted to share my latest Hoboken Parking Utility frustration… I have three of those scratch-off red temporary visitor hang tags that I bought for when I have guests.
Last time I was at the HPU, they were out of the hang tags for over a month, so as soon as they got new ones in, I bought a bunch of them. These ones have the years 06, 07, and 08 are on them. Since they don’t go past 08, they’re useless after next week, so I went down to see the nice folks at the HPU to exchange them for new ones. Something that I assumed would be a simple procedure, but nope, not at the HPU.
The clerk told me that they’re “only good for 3 years.” But I bought these in 2007, so that means my three years wouldn’t be up until 2010. “Well then yours were good for 1.5 years, and you should have used them by now.” As I realized this conversation wasn’t going anywhere, I asked if there was anyone else I could speak to. She told me no, and that this issue has come up before… My next course of action is to write a letter to John Corea, and hopefully resolve this issue with him. I know it would only be $15 down the drain, but it’s the principal of the thing.
I was wondering if anyone else has attempted to get new passes and if I’m wrong in thinking they should continue to be valid, since the whole point of buying scratch off passes is that you can use them when you need to… Otherwise I guess I can just stand outside the municipal garage on New Years Eve and try scalp them.
