Lost: Wallet

12/23/2008:

Losing a wallet at anytime can really blow chunks. Luckily, I’ve never lost mine!

However, Hoboken411 reader **** lost hers (a couple days ago – and just realized it? Forgive me, but what’s up with that? Were you in a coma? Do you have servants and other people handling your finances?)

See her story below – and what do you do “just in case” you lose your wallet? Do you write your account numbers down? Have a way of canceling all your cards? Do you know how to get a new drivers license? Insurance card? Etc?

I lost my wallet somewhere, at some point

“Hello! I just realized I lost my wallet. The last time I remember seeing it is Saturday night (i cant believe I haven’t used it since then). I got picked up at my place right next to Biggies Clam Bar (3rd and Madison) and got dropped off there too. It was in my coat pocket, so it definitely could have fallen out. I was hoping that you could post a lost wallet little bulletin or something, and fingers crossed, someone has it! It has my NY Drivers License, ATM card and credit card amongst other things. I’m attaching a picture, its a Ben Sherman black leather ‘magic wallet’ with orange inside, but this the closest picture I could find.

Thanks!
****”

Anyway – I instructed her to call the Hoboken Police Department to see if they had it (that should be automatic). Considering she has a NY drivers license, it’s possible they had no idea she was living in Hoboken. I’ll see if she got anywhere with them later.

With today’s tough economic times – I’m very skeptical that a person had enough good will to return it. But I’d love to be wrong!

If you found this wallet – just send an email to Hoboken411@gmail.com and I’ll put you in touch with ****.

A good idea is to photcopy everything in your wallet, front and back, so you have account and 800 numbers to call, then keep said copy someplace safe at home for when wallet is gone.

Just don’t end of like Wallet Boy (and I will be impressed if anyone remembers him!)

People occasionally do the right thing.

When I was in 6th grade, I lost my wallet at Fenway Park. A couple weeks later, I got it back in the mail. No note or return address or anything. It even had my $20 in it.

That definitely made an impression on me at a young age that not all people are rotten…
