Does anybody know whether you can add money to the smartlinks on line like with an easypass? I never got one because the lines at the machines during rush hour are ridiculous.

What bull$hit!! They try to make it harder and harder for people to use their system. Now I can’t use the nice ten trip cards, I have to pay $5 for them to send me a card and have to go online?!?!
What about people who are just visiting and want a couple of trips? Sickening
Man, I can’t wait until NYC and Hoboken are propelled back into the 70’s. People are fleeing, but we’ll squeeze just a little more out of them!

Just keep in mind – if you need rides *THAT* day it takes ~2 days for the rides to get credited to the card. You have to use a TVM to refill the card if you need it that day.
You can also use the online site to auto-refill via your credit/debit card. It is smart enough to actually know that you are using a flex-spending card and will not allow you to auto-refill off those cards.
I’ve had one for at least 2 years (smartlink) and it has worked extremely well. Never had to replace or had a problem with it.

It says “machine sales” end. I assume I can still buy the 40-ride Quick Card from the Hudson News guy at 33rd St station.

They can buy a MTA metrocard. That works on the PATH too, and it’s still cheaper than a trip on the subway.

There has also been no word of discontinuing the Quick Card for those of us who have one mailed to us each month, with payments automatically deducted pretax from our paychecks.

I’ve had to go into the train station to buy a Quick Card at a NJ transit machine.
I had free smartlink card. It worked twice then never again and they wouldn’t replace it
Total rip off to have to pay 5 bucks for the card, cause you know they cost less than a buck to make

I got my SmartLink Card for free back when they were handing them out. They were also free online at the PA website. I actually got two of them, one as a backup in case I ever lose the other one.

If your card stops scanning after 90 days from when you bought your smartlink card, they will make you buy another $5 card to get any balance that is left on your card. If you ask for your balance in quickcards, they refuse to give you anything.
