Trouble with your DirecTV?

12/19/2008:

Lose your satellite signal?

The solution is simple. Since this is a wet, sticky snow – you have to clean the dish off!

I lost signal earlier, and attributed it to a tall cloud base (like when a massive thunderstorm comes), however, this lasted longer, and I knew I had to schlep up to the roof to clean the dish.

Brushing off the snow solved the problem. My setup has the HD21 DVR receiver and the 5-LNB dish, in case you’re wondering.

I’ve never had a problem in 6 years.

[quote comment=”123706″]FMTVENG- I didn’t check my signal during/after the snow – but the snow/ice buildup was not only on the dish itself – but on the thing-a-ma-bobs that aim at the dish (it was caked on ice – you can sort of see it in the picture – on all three of those things).

What time did you do the test? This happened at around 1:30-2:00pm

I cleaned mine off about 9PM. Take a look at the signals I posted above (menu/setup/satellite/signal strength)- if yours are much lower then what i posted, you probably should re-peak your dish.

Snow and Ice on the dish, the actual parabolic reflector that concentrates the beam, does more harm then buildup on the LNB itself.
