Have the ugly sweaters surfaced yet?

Since I have so many things going on, I forgot to run a “Ugly Holiday Sweater” contest this year… cripes!

So take a look at one of last year’s entries below – and send in your photos if you can beat this tacky sweater and holiday photo! (creepy lap gnomes not required – eek!)

Here’s the first entry for the Hoboken411 ugly holiday sweater contest, from Hoboken resident Kathy Mallow. Check out her story!

Creepy Hoboken Holiday Photos and sweaters

I found a dreadful sweater!

This picture is from my last holiday newsletter. Some years I’d create one, satirizing the kind my suburban family received growing up. So, I have lots of experience with thrift-shop treasure-hunting for the next, perfectly dreadful holiday sweater.

As a result, I amassed an impressive personal collection! Beowoof is the curator of what’s left, for anyone who wants a costume for themselves when their pet is photographed there with Santa. (There’s another especially choice one from the ’80’s: big padded shoulders, covered with holiday ribbons and jingle bells—redefines a “loud” piece of clothing!)

So this holiday tableau is indeed out in Hoboken—at Beowoof. The sweater is from our Hospital Thrift Shop. Note the big gold gros-grain bow at the neckline and the lurex-threaded tree on the proper left. The puffy sleeves, as well as the cuff & collar color-accents, are other thoughtful touches. Unfortunately, the shifty-eyed Santa on my knee somewhat obscures what’s under the tree: lurex packages and lurex teddy-bears, all sporting big red & green plaid bows. The teddy-bear motif is repeated on the back of the sweater I recall.

On a sad note, this picture documents Reindeer Girl Scout’s last holiday photo, as she died at age 5-1/2, this past March. Dreidel-Head Fauxfur, Elf LeRoy, and I miss her everyday (especially me, when I look at this picture)!
