Reader Mail: HUMC Stroke Center

12/1/2008:

A Hoboken411 reader has an observation about Hoboken University Medical Center:

There’s a reason we have a Primary Stroke Center

“Last week, I was walking along the Avenue, and noticed a glossy heavy-weight HUMC brochure sitting in the gutter. It must have fallen out of one of the thousands of unread Reporters that are disposed of each week.

Anyway, the headline read “State designates Hoboken UMC a Primary Stroke Center.”

My feeling is they were forced to, because of all the strokes and heart attacks the massive property tax increase caused!”

At least their Emergency Department…
Isn’t the ER the main reason the hospital is still open?
Well I guess since Asians can run a “Tex Mex/Pizza, insert-any-type-here” restaurant, then by all means HUMC can operate an “Emergency Department”

Trump as an FYI at the current moment it is VERY rare for union city or north bergen or weehawken to cover hoboken. AMCARE is our first in mutual aide. The other ambulances are just brining in people from their service areas.

As for indigent care payments its not just based on the town the hospital is located in but based is complex formula that looks at total number of patients that are classified as self pay.

I can say from first-hand experience (unfortunately) that Hoboken “Medical” Center is HORRENDOUS
At least their Emergency Department…
I was waiting for 5 hours with ACCUTE ABDOMINAL pain screaming while I heard them treating all other patients and with minor injuries such as a sprained ankle…
any REAL hoepital (i.e., any in NY) would have gone by the PROTOCOL of treating any sudden accute onset of chest, head or abdominal pain as life threatening and thus IMMEDIATELY.
They are horrible…
I have heard my incident wasn’t that unusual…
If I ever have any emergency again I will take the risk of a longer commute and go across the Hudson..
