Hoboken Week in Review – 11/23/2008

11/23/2008:

Let the Holiday Music begin!

With Thanksgiving coming up this week – get ready for a month of non-stop holiday commercialism!

So without the Christmas Jingles, what made the most discussed entries for the week ending Sunday November 23, 2008?

Hottest topics of the week

  1. Picardo Debacle
More lunacy in the case of Tax-collector vs. Tax-payers in Hoboken – and the most popular zoning variance of the year!
  2. Is your 401(k) safe?
A simple question about the possible changes in how your retirement money is handled turns into a hot-button topic.
  3. Sidewalks provide sweet dreams for the inebriated
A Hoboken411 reader sends in some candid shots of a man who had too much to drink.
  4. Is the U.S. Auto Industry Safe?
Another reader shares an interesting video of what might happen if the big three auto-makers go away.
  5. Drunks leave a mess behind in Hoboken
You should try walking around at 6am on a Sunday – some surprising artifacts you’ll see on your journey.
  6. 411 is obsessed with a new spa
For some odd reason – I like providing random updates about a new nail salon/spa coming to town.
  7. Tens of millions of dollars – for what?
Many residents are scratching their heads until they bleed – mystified by the circus called the Hoboken Board of Education.
  8. No Nonsense Judy
State-appointed fiscal monitor Judy Tripodi ain’t taking any prisoners in Hoboken.
  9. Debt Consolidation – a smart move?
The Hoboken411 Financial Guru makes his sophomore appearance.
  10. Bankrupt!
The Monroe Center bankruptcy story makes news again….

As of “press time,” not much entered into the event calendar – especially with Thanksgiving this week:

  • Council Meeting is MONDAY, November 24th.
  • Do you smell turkey?
The famous Macy*s Thanksgiving Parade is this week! Happy days off for everyone!

If you follow the recent convictions of politicans and their cronies, you will see it took some time. It is a battle to overcome 👿

Once we send a clear message to Picardo and people like him that we want our City BACK — we will have a better quality of life and a lower price!

KUDOS TO YOU H411!!! KUDOS!!!
I suppose.

Hand out fliers. Stuff storm doors, do some mailings… my flier HAS made a difference! Picardo’s illegal addition is STILL not approved, and if it is approved it will only be the tip of the iceberg.

DO NOT QUIT. Sooner or later a lifetime of corruption will drown these criminals.

But what gets said here really does not change a thing.

Powers that be seem pretty secure to me. Where’s the smoking gun and clear illegal acts that result in charges and jail time?

You have to run for office and win and stay honest once in to make a difference. Every good community organizer realizes you have to be inside to make real change.
No. 2 ant – Don’t get discouraged – give it time. Good things are worth waiting for. 411 along with many others will make a visible difference. 😛
