Corzine’s army of cars?

10/7/2008:
I recall doing a story recently that had something to do with this uptown parking lot. In the process - I also snapped this picture of these obvious government vehicles parked in the lot.
We know that NJ Governor Jon Corzine has a fleet of giant SUV’s tagging along with him whenever he buys a banana, cup of coffee or a newspaper - but are these also part of his crew?

State troopers need vehicles to drive in.

Three Crown Vics and 2-3 Suburbans? It sickens me every time I see that fleet idling in front of the Tea building.

Is it really necessary to have two Suburbans with four state employees while the Governor is at the gym?
Perhaps it is.

I don’t see a fleet, I see 2 suburbans whenever he’s in town.
I’m not going to complain because one of these vehicles actually allowed me to cross 15th the other day at a cross walk, which is more than I can say for 90% of the other cars in Hoboken.

Why should he behave any differently than the City in which he lives?

If you ever notice the 2 Suburbans have private plates meanwhile crown vics have state plates….possible that the 2 suburbans he purchased himself? He is a billionaire isn’t he? so that means the state vehicles aren’t wasting tax payers money on fuel sitting there. Ummmm?!?!?

Wouldn’t walking the Mile Square be good PT for Corzine?
Let his security entourage walk with him.
Or perhaps he doesn’t want to interact with his constituents?

I have seen him walking, actually limping, around. The suburbans follow behind him at 2 mph.

He’s a politician. I think there’s some rule that you have to have a fat ass before you’ve finished a full term, hence no walking.

emt, corzine is not a billionaire. his et worth was est. at $400mm when he ran for election. he paid more per vote than any other election in US history, that is to say he bought the election. and while he burned thru alot of the union’s donations he also dropped alot of his own cash. some estimates are over $20mm…and then ther is the decline in property values and the domestic markets. so you would expect that he would be down at least 20% on the year, though the hedge funds he is in may have done alot worse.

One of the Crown Vics was a gift from Carla.

I’ve seen Port Authority cruisers with standard NJ plates as well.
Trust me, we are paying for the Suburbans and the gas.

Yes 3 Crown Vics and 2-3 suburbans. I am against excess and waste of money, like 500,000 to outgoing superintendants, which is pennies compared to 500 Million from corrupt CEO’s, however, Govenor Corzine, like him or not, is New Jersey’s highest ranking official, and we should want to have him well protected. Its called security of those in power. 4 vehicles may only bring 8 officers on security detail, plus their equiptment. With some of the psychos in this state and country, we need our leaders protected to the fullest.

Corzine in press today describing the plan to help nj towns arrange short-term financing to meet their funding/liquidity needs. btw, i mentioned it here but didn’t get any comments and i didn’t see any threads from H411 on it: you know that hoboken floated a zero coupon issue in the summer to meet some misc needs right? i believe it was $12 million dollars or so, about the emount that roberts had over speant the budget. well, the bonds come due the end of nov i believe. so if the muni market has seized up, and cities and towns of GOOD standing cannot issue any debt, then a city taken over by the state that is in theory bankrupt will find it impossible to issue debt. that means that when those $12mm zeros come due in 60 days the taxpayers of hoboken are going to ave a very big tax bill in their mail boxes. those of you who have the tax bill paid by your mortgage companies will find that you pay, or you default/forclose…and BTW mortgage companies normally adjust your monthly payment to reflect the higher taxes required plus a surplus, for a couple quarters before you can appeal and have the monthly payment reduced.
all i can say is WOW. property owners in hoboken are going to face reality in the next 60 days and i do not think it is going to be pretty. i mean, if your mtg payment is now $3500 month it could easily go to $5000 per month because of this tax bill disaster caused by mayor roberts. good luck.

Plenty of law enforcement vehicles have negular NJ plates (hell, Hoboken’s building inspector does). I have them on my gov car. The difference being, at leats my guess, is that the Crown Vics are used for either advance agents or shift relief, and not transporting the protectee, aka the guv’nuh…so no need to be lower profile and SG plates are fine. Two black suburbans with government tags, driving in motorcade fashion, screams “VIP” and in order to maintain a slightly lower profile, having regular tags is just one tool. Again, this all guessing on my part, but I spent 2 years doing protection for a federal government agency head, and most details, aside from the President and VP, operate fairly similar.

is this schmuck going to pay the increased tolls he just put into place though dictatorial edict when all those cars drive the highways and byways of NJ??

see the piece on corzine and his ethics bill? pretty funny the guy that gave the biggest union leader in nj +$400k to pay off her house, then banged the sh1t out of her while she was married, all the time he’s running for Gov…now that’s some funny sh1t.

Since this post originally came out, I’ve been taking note of the governor’s “fleet.” In the several times I’ve seen his “fleet” in the past week, it’s only been 2 Suburbans, none of these extraneous cars mentioned here. I have not seen the grey Crown Vics at all.
