Uptown Fire – 1202 Hudson St.
Just wanted to bump the story in case people missed it while 411 had database issues.
The 80-year old woman who died in the fire was identified as Paula Otero, who’s son Jose works for Applied Housing. Our thoughts go out to her family.
Here’s another picture, and you can see the videos below.
10/1/2008 7:54am Update:
“A woman was found dead in her Hoboken apartment Wednesday morning after a fire ripped through the building. The woman, who is in her 80s, was discovered just a short time after the four-alarm blaze on Hudson Street was brought under control. The fire tore quickly (411: not so quickly) through the five-story apartment building. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. Meantime, the Red Cross is opening up a shelter at the nearby Wallace School for families evacuated from the 162 units affected by the fire.”
10/1/2008 7:40am Update:
Hoboken411 reader “neighbor” indicated that it’s been confirmed that an elderly woman has perished in the fire. Sad news. They said NBC news reported that information.
Additionally – according to the Hoboken411 live police and fire radio – that this fire incident has now officially been declared “a crime scene.”
Can’t Hoboken ever shake it’s “Arson” history? Once and for all?
10/1/2008 6:35am Update:
Here’s PART TWO of the RAW video that was shot this morning.
10/1/2008 5:50am Update:
Here’s PART ONE of the RAW video I took. The first five minutes of about 75 total clips. One commenter said NBC News reported the fire as starting at 1202 Hudson. PART TWO of the inferno in about 45 min.
10/1/2008 4:50am Update:
A pretty substantial fire happened in the area of about 1206 Hudson Street (Not sure if it was 1204 or 1208 or 1202). This was right behind where the 1203 Washington Street fire took place earlier in the year. Started on the top floor.
Took about 10-15 minutes of video – will upload it in raw format in a couple hours. See it from the beginning.
Fire was winding down when I left – however, that doesn’t rule out the possibility of the always-feared fire creep.
There’s a active fire going on somewhere uptown… going to check it out now… Sounds like it’s semi-serious.
