Emergency response drill this Sunday

10/4/2008 Reminder:

If the four hours between 7am and 11am tomorrow are especially important to you – and the PATH is your mode of transport – you’ve been reminded. Otherwise – get a few extra Zzz’s today!

9/30/2008:

If you’re planning to use the PATH this Sunday morning – don’t.

“All Hands on Deck” for a full-scale emergency response drill:

Alternate travel options from Hoboken:

  • LIGHT RAIL – NJ Transit will cross-honor a PATH ticket or fare card at Hoboken and Pavonia/Newport Light Rail stations. Connections available at Pavonia/Newport for PATH service to NY and NJ.
  • BUS – Take NJ Transit Bus #126 to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan. Connections available to NYC Transit.
  • FERRY – Take NY Waterway Ferry Service from their 14th Street Terminal to midtown Manhattan.

PATH service from Journal Square to 33rd Street will NOT stop at Hoboken during closure hours.

NJ Transit bus service at Hoboken Station will be relocated to Observer Highway and Washington Street during closure hours. PATH will provide a handicapped-accessible shuttle bus from that location to Pavonia/Newport Station for connection to PATH service to NY and NJ.

Customers are asked to allow extra time to arrive at their destinations.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we conduct this drill for emergency preparedness.

Their scenario was “Reports of smoke and explosions on Track 2 in the PATH station”

Oh, so the typical biweekly occurrence.[/quote]
Oh, you beat me to it.

The pictures don’t show any of the “wounded,” some of whom were made up rather remarkably. I wish I’d remembered my own camera.

What idiot decided to do a drill on a Sunday morning that shut down the PATH when they were going to do construction on the Holland Tunnel (closing the inbound lanes) and some bike ride that jammed up the Lincoln Tunnel, FDR & Henry Hudson? Did they deliberately do all 3 at the same time so they could seal off Manhatan from NJ? I think whomever is doing the scheduling of these sorts of things at the PA got in line twice when God was passing out “stupid”.

I was a volunteer victim last year. The drill was at Exchange Place. Fascinating stuff.
